Define "woke"

Major League Baseball is very woke. They’re not alone. Same can be said of the NBA and NFL, but since their championship series starts tomorrow we’ll give them a hug and juice box.

Your comprehension skills are in need of a hug and a juice box.
What SPECIFICALLY have they done for you to mislabel them as "woke?"

Are you still pissed about Jackie Robinson?

Ha ha. You know who Jackie Robinson was, and you’ve accused me of mislabeling MLB as woke. There’s no point in pretending you don’t know what I was referring to.

Considering woke seems to mean whatever rightie sees the wind blowing, I'd say that is more the problem you're ignoring. Hence you bringing up MLB

Your saying mlb is woke basically demonstrates the entire point of the thread. Woke just seems to be whatever bullshit about life that the right blames on the left at the time.

The more times I hear woke as the explanation, the more I just think it's just things in society that confuse the right which happened after 1950.

My take on the term "woke" is the right bitching about the changes occurring due to the changing demographic that the US is now transitioning into.
IE soon Caucasians will not be the "majority".

Guess they should have worked to enabled the less fortunate to be able to afford more children, through a well thought out social network encompassing health, education, equality, etc etc....

Much easier to call it by the short name -> #grievancePorn

Being a self righteous, lazy, entitled, brain dead, brainwashed moron who calls everyone who disagrees with them some form of ist or phobe, and who is themselves racist, sexist, and homophobic and too stupid to see it. They also spew 24/7 hate because end of the day they hate themselves and attack in packs behind a keyboard

In fewer words, any leftwing dipstick on this forum.

You're a fucking idiot...*chuckles*

Right wingers like President Obama ridicule those who embrace wokeness.

"If I tweet or hashtag about how you didn't do something right or used the wrong verb, then I can sit back and feel pretty good about myself because 'Man did you see how woke I was? I called you out!'"

Tweet or hashtag as much as you want.....I'll never see it nor do I care...woke......lol what useless term will some idiot concoct next...

It means basically, a belief that racism, sexism and homophobia are not only okay but are actually good and noble concepts.

But on a more complicated level, it can also mean being overly and excessively sensitive to any perceived statement or idea that can be twisted or interpreted as racist, sexist, or homophobic even if that was not the original intent. Or in other words, looking for creative ways to be offended by things that would not otherwise be offensive.

Some examples:

"Minnesota Vikings? That's OFFENSIVE TO SCANDANAVIAN PEOPLE!! Let's change the name of the team."

"San Francisco? The Franciscans oppressed the native population of California, so let's change the name of the city to "Zoomba N'Gawash City."

To me someone is ‘woke’ if they make decisions based on empathy and a sense that their actions have consequences to others in society, rather than making their choices based only on personal interests and self-enrichment.

It is ‘woke’ because they are ‘awake’ to the concept that other people matter.

LOL, instead of defining “woke” you defined trumpers. Well done!

So called liberal and progressives who make idiotic posts about stupid shit like "What the definition of woke is?". Who gives a shit? How does this affect anyone's life? It's stupid shit like this that makes you look like safe space, pussy hat wearing, morons.

True progressives are focused on issues that really matter like universal health care, the minimum wage, unionization, cost of housing, clean water, etc. You want to know why Democrats lose to Republicans? Stupid shit like this. In a world that made sense when people think Democrats, they should be thinking, "Aren't those the people that are always harping on health care and wages? They won't shut up about it. It's all they talk about. Somebody brings up gay queer trans bathroom issues or Black, Mexican, Muslim, issues and they just go back to raging about 45,000 Americans that die every year from lack of health care and declining wages of the average worker".

But in today's market place of ideas Democrats are seen as smug, elitist, out of touch idiots who accomplish little to nothing when elected and rather lower themselves into the toxic pit of mindless name calling with idiot Republicans than actually focus on issues that affect average Americans.

Somewhere in all that ranting is a logical, and actually good, post.

To paraphrase, the Democrats get too hung up on issues of what used to be called "political correctness" and these gender/race issues, instead of issues that actually matter to the everyday lives of people, like health care, wages, and jobs. Which hurts their cause. That is a fair point, by the way.

And, to be honest, I'm not sure the other side has any better answers either (other than, lets do away with health care and wage laws.)

the reason 'gay, queer, trans, Blacks, Mexicans, Muslims' are issues to be spoken about are because they involve REAL people having REAL problems, most frequently due to the discriminatory behaviour of those who feel these people don't matter. If these are issues affecting these people, then they matter...

More and more families have a member who has come out as gay or trans, have a neighbour being threatened with physical (let alone mental) harm for their religious or political beliefs, friends and workmates who have problems accessing affordable housing or healthcare or able to cast a ballot in an election because of their ethnicity. These are REAL people, real EVERY day people just as much as anyone else is. Remember, these real everyday people are having to deal with those problems AS WELL AS all the others the apparently 'normal, everyday people' are having to deal with. The more people are aware, the better they are able to understand and have some empathy. That seems especially pertinent for republicans who too often lack any real empathy for something so outside their cultural upbringing--until they, themselves, have been affected by it. Then they suddenly 'get it'. In an ideal world, no-one should be suffering persecution and discrimination on any level because of their gender/sex/age/religious affiliation/political beliefs/where in the freakin' world they were born and now live.

when everyone's rights and daily experiences/opportunities are on an equal footing, no-one will feel any need to be discussing any of these things as separate issues to be highlighted.

do politicians use these issues to garner votes? of course, by both sides of the aisles; they exploit them for all manner of reasons, but the base reason is votes. Enough votes, a political party can bring about changers their voters want to see. What matters is people are aware these issues even exist: only then can anything be done to rectify the inequalities. Pretending they don't matter, or even don't exist, is wrong on all levels.

But it is ok to tell a woman what she can do concerning her health.

What do you expect from a guy whose very screen-name expresses love for a blatant violation of women's privacy?
