Oh! A climber. What sort of climbing do you do, hun?

Bouldering mostly. It's a fast, easy setup (all I need is a crash pad and chalk bag) and there are a few good spots nearby. Some top roping now and then when I have more time. I've never done any trad or lead climbing. How about you?

I’ve done some trad in the UK - Snowdonia and The Peak District. Mostly sport in the US. Took a look at the Gunks and didn’t like the pro.

But I mostly boulder - V4-V6 - what’s that 7a, right. Then I’m light and have tiny fingers, so I’m told that’s cheating, right . Been to Bishop a couple of times and RMNP once.

OMG yes! I'm, frankly, into a specific shape, long-waisted and svelte, nothing more than a C-cup. And the face has to be friendly and inviting, and on the cute side, especially if there is a glimmer of high intelligence. I appreciate beauty, but a girl-next-door cutie will turn me into a pile of goo.

At the climbing gym, I notice legs first. You know you're watching a skilled boulderer/climber when their toes are whisper-quiet on the holds and they move with grace and purpose. It's riveting, especially if they're climbing a hard problem that you were flailing on earlier. If the climber is wearing a tank top or crop top, I notice their upper back and shoulders, the way the muscles contract and tighten as they move up the wall, that lovely line running down the center of the lower back. If I'm feeling really creepy, I may also sneak a glimpse of their chest later when they aren't on the wall.

But, but... Isn't it hard to climb with fins?

I'm sure the folks who tell you that you're cheating because you're light and have small fingers also factor in your height disadvantage and the fact that you may have to work out a completely different sequence from a climber who is six feet tall, right?

The most fun I've had bouldering was at Horse Pens 40 in Alabama. It's all smooth, sloping sandstone, which is a very different style of bouldering than I'm used to. Requires a lot of body tension and slow, controlled movement. It's also hell on the fingertips. By the end of the trip, most of my tips were bleeding. So much fun, though.

I’ve climbed on some scrappy crags round PA when at college. Not so much round here. I mostly run nowadays. But have convinced my bf to give it a go - hence the local rock gym and this thread.
