I just heard about these Health Clubs for women today. They sound a little weird to me and I'm wondering if anyone has tried them or knows of anyone who has.

Supposedly they have a set number of machines that you have to use, but you only use each one for a minute or so and then you jog in place on a padded mat until you go to the next machine in line. You do this until you've used each machine 3 times and they say it only takes a half hour.

A minute isn't very long, how many reps can you possibly do in a minute? People say you have to do them fast but when I used to go to Bally's I was always told that your movements should be slow and deliberate, which seems to be exactly the opposite of what these places are saying.

I have a friend and an Aunt that go to Curves.

They both love it.. My friend likes the fact that she can go before work.. or after. And if I remember correctly you only go three times a week.

Is it working? Are they tonning up and losing weight?

They did say it was three times a week.

They take your money and after you stop going and cancel your contract...they *keep* taking your money. Then they tell you that they lost your contract...and they *keep* taking your money. But your anger does tend to burn calories.

You can do this at almost any work out club. I see people doing this work out here at school. I think it is called "the power loop". Or something like that. I think if you were to rep with light weights it would work out. When lifting heavy weights you have to do more slow movements.

LOL, I think all Health Clubs do that.

So with light weights you don't have to be as slow and deliberate?

The thing that had me thinking about it was that you can join from month to month so if you decide after 2 months that you don't want to go back you don't have to keep paying.

They don't actually have weights either, it's hydraulic resistence. I think Bally's had those years ago. I started out on those when I went there but I didn't really like the machines as much as the regular weight machines.

I don't know 3 days a week, 30 minutes a day just sounds too good to be true.

I haven't seen my Aunt since she started. She might be locked in her plastic wrap/duct tape bathroom for all I know.

My friend is losing weight.. and toning up nicely.

There are a number of routines that have been around for a while that are probably the basis for this type of workout. They have different names, but they have been employed by serious body builders who want to really sock it to their system. I'm doing one now called the Romanian blah blah system. It consists of 10 sets for major muscle groups with 10 reps. You only take 60-90 seconds between sets. Believe me, it is tremendous workout, but I only am doing this to shock my muscles. After you have been doing any routine for a period of time, your body adapts to it and you stop making gains. These types of routines can have a singinifcant affect on your body structure, in a condensed ammount of time. I will only do this for 6 weeks though and then I'm going back to my normal workout.

hmmm....maybe I should try it, since you can do month to month I can try if for a month or two and see how it goes.

Oh, did I mention that there's a recording that tells you when to get off the machine and when to get on the next machine? It sounds so cultish.

Supposedly their pretty big so they must be doing something right.
