Look, I hate the term "conspiracy theories". It is used too often, and sometimes those "conspiracies" turn out to be "truths". However, what is the biggest conspiracy theory which you believe in sports? I'll start.

Major League Baseball not only knew about the players using steroids, they supported it. The mid-season strike of the mid 90s had ended, and had hurt the sport. Fans were upset, and MLB needed something to excite fans again.

What do fans love seeing? Homeruns. Suddenly, these guys are hitting absolute bombs. ESPN has highlight after highlight of guys crushing pitches.

Added to the fact that players have talked about MLB sending people to the teams to teach them about needle safety and proper disposal of used needles, I think MLB, at least privately endorsed steroid use. If not endorsed, encouraged. If not encouraged, at a minimum, didn't discourage it.

MLB only became "outraged" when the general public knew and began asking questions. At least that's my theory

The above sounds so true you're only strange if you don't believe it.

For me - football teams are required to use the 'prevent defense" if they have the lead with less than 2 minutes left. Why else do teams stop running the formations that have successfully pressured the QB, and instead go with a 3 man rush that gives the QB all day to throw? All in a vain attempt to run out the clock. See LSU/USC for an example this past weekend.

The leagues require this so as to have exciting games with last minutes comebacks, instead of 4 plays and the other team gets the ball and kneels for the win.
