I was looking into a new favorite story ping today and realized something. Some are probably going to think "Duh!" but others are likely baffled, so I'm going to pass this on. When you see multiple "favorites" pop up from the same member, the reason is that your control panel alerts don't distinguish between favorites and lists. Multiple ones back to back means the member has added that story to one or more of their curated lists.
Enough people have discovered this feature that if you download your statistics, you'll see that your list numbers are now outpacing ( if not vastly outpacing ) your favorites numbers. Lit may want to look into adding this number to our control panel by default, rather than requiring a download of the statistics, because I think this number is going to become quite relevant in the future. Likewise, it would probably be helpful if the control panel pings distinguished between the two.
The favorites list is a free-for-all that can be difficult to digest when it gets large, but someone who is curating lists can provide a descriptive title for that list and actually categorize stories they enjoyed. They can also pull stories that have a secondary theme that doesn't necessarily coincide with the category into a list and allow anyone who peruses them to discover stories they might have otherwise never found. If it hasn't happened already, some of these members are going to gain followers through well-curated lists, and their lists will become significant sources of readership.
This is no longer a random feature with little relevance. It's something to keep an eye on.
