How can I figure out what lists my stories are on?

I wonder if maybe that's a normal part of the lifecycle of a story, assuming that the favorites number and the lists number are now truly separated?

I imagine that a lot of people will put a story into a private to-read list, and then they may come back and give it a favorite after reading, and also remove it from their to-read list?

Maybe. But I have a number of stories that are more than three years old where lists outnumber favorites, which suggests the contrary.

Still? When was the last time you downloaded them? This appears to be a super-recent change from what I can tell.

10/10/24 | Today ( Favs - Lists )

88-131 | 88-54
249-347 | 255-147
90-120 | 89-35
80-124 | 81-55
106-153 | 111-53
94-130 | 96-44

That's lists +11, 49, 5, 11, 6, 8 from the first few stories on my works page. Pretty feasible gains for a little over 6 months, especially since most of my favorites popping on the dashboard have been blocks — often with the same story popping up more than once within minutes.

Actually, my very good friend, I don't think you are right on this one.

None of mine have more on the list icon than the hearts.
The icon you are referring to, the one with the number 65, means that your story has either been made a "favorite" OR been placed on a "to be read later" list. It is the sum of those two lists. This number is always larger than the favorites number, which is indicated by the heart symbol.

As far as I know there is no way to know if your story has been placed on a curated list other than the maker of the list telling you so.

Some of my stories have more "lists" than "favorites," and some have the reverse 🤷‍♀️

Now that I've got a few more stories under my belt (oh, sweet naïve 2024 Penny...) it's still not entirely clear to me what the "lists" number is actually measuring...

The fact that some stories have more "favorites" than "lists" must mean that favorites are not included in the list number, right?

A discrepancy of one or two could be explained by different update rates for the two numbers. But Millie's "Friendly Rough Encounter," a two-year-old story with 15 more favorites than lists, doesn't seem like it could just be a difference in stat refresh rates.

I'm still haunted by this mystery 🤣

The system has changed over time, so the figures we see now represent different things from what they meant a few years ago. My comment, which you responded to, was from last December, and I believe things have changed since then.

Here's what I see on my submissions page:

With my stories, sometimes the "favorites" exceed "to be read" lists, and sometimes it's the other way around. But in any event, it's a different system from what existed before. The site now clearly distinguishes stories placed on "to be read" lists from "favorites," which it did not do before. And it's not clear to me that the "lists" numbers in this case represent or include "curated list" numbers as opposed to simply being placed on "to be read" lists. I think curated lists are something completely separate.

For a long time, if you downloaded the daily data file for your stories, you'd get two list numbers. One was favorites, and one was favorites plus to be read, but they weren't clearly marked that way. Now they are labeled differently AND calculated differently. I don't recall exactly when the change happened, but it was a while ago.

Okie Dokie... I hit on a link from a fresh like in the thread to something I'd said, long, long ago in a place far, far away.
