I don't think I've ever met anyone who believes the Bible should be taken literally even from the New Testament because it's, you know not supposed to be.
I think they either intentionally ask a certain group of people or they phrase the questions in a manner that causes confusion. No way is the number really that high.

I know a LOT of people who believe it. It's scary living in the Bible Belt, y'all.
 
I am always dumbfounded by people who believe in Jesus Christ. He is just one of many mediterranean 'Gods' who were born of a virgin, died, was reborn, etc.

I was talking to a reasonably good friend once and was sharing something about evolution (a theory about a particular genetic memory related to when our bodies were covered with hair) and she laughed and waved me off and said, "Oh, I don't believe in any of that," in the way that someone might dismiss astrology. I said something like, "yeah, it's just a theory (meaning, the particular genetic memory)" and she said, "No, that we were ever covered in hair. That's not in the Bible. I don't believe it."

And she meant it.

And I never knew how to talk to her again.
 
The universe as we know it, is an experiment in a petri dish in an alien lab much like those in a Berkeley South science building basement, long forgotten about and now just run-a-muck.

I can teach you the language of derp. However once this language is taught you can never unlearn it and it's been known, on rare occasion to cause milk and cereal to spontaneously combust if spoken over it. Once I wasn't paying attention and *poof* no more eyebrows. And I have big bushy eyebrows, with them missing my forehead looks like it goes on for miles.

My all time favorite is the "God created fossils to test our faith" line. I always have to resist the urge to ask them if they realize that they basically called their Lord a troll.

I'm not in the bible belt and I know a few. Neighbors won't send their kids to public school because they dont want them exposed to non biblical teachings. Their grandparents weren't monkeys you know.

Something very similar happened to me. Someone I had gone through university with and considered to be both clever and enlightened. During our uni days the topic of evolution had never come up...we were too busy with other shit. Then I meet up with her the year after graduation and we're talking and suddenly the issue of evolution comes up and she looks at me incredulously and says " you don't really believe we evolved from apes do you?" I looked at her and saw someone I didn't know.

I will get another comment from SeanH that I am stupid but I believe God created the heavens and the earth and that living things that were created can adapt over the years to their surroundings. :heart:

Please don't feel sorry for me. You can send me the book if you tell me you have at least read the whole bible. I unlike other people don't mind alternative views. I am not young and naive. I have spent time studying this and this is what I believe. :rose:
