Could 1 minute change your life?

I was out running in the rain yesterday. I had a choice between running in the road on my usual route or taking a different path. There was a huge puddle in the road. As I didn't want to take a chance of getting runover, I chose the alternate path. It took me about 1 extra minute. When you're running it gives you a lot of time to contemplate things. I started wondering about how this simple choice could have an affect on my life. I mean, how could 1 minute make a difference? When I got back to work I met someone I knew, just as they were about to leave the health facility. We began to talk. Then it dawned on me. I ran into this person at this time, because of that 1 minute. My thoughts, everything that I did fom the time after that minute, would always be slightly different, from what they might have been, if I had gone the other way.

The little choices we make do add up. Everything we do has some affect on our future. Keep that in mind.

Shit 2 tenths of a second can change your life.

I never believed it, until I rolled my car at like 60mph.

That's all life is, hon. A series of moments.

1 minute can change your life in so many ways it's almost beyond comprehension. But if you spend to much time thinking about how each minute could change your life all those minutes will be gone. So live it up and let the minutes deal what they will is what I say.

in a whole minute?

1.5 seconds to be shot by a VA sniper.. (not trying to be crude or funny, it's just a good example)

2 seconds to hit a small child with your big pick-up truck

5 seconds to walk in on your wife/husband cheating on you

3.5 seconds to fall in love at first sight

4 seconds for a spem to fertilize an egg.

1 second to pull the trigger.

10 seconds to decide to pick up your car keys after setting down your beer.

3 seconds to confess your love.

eight lives can be permently altered with a mere 30 seconds..

I find myself playing the foollsih game of wondering about those folks that got shot by the sniper. I know there is nothing to be done about it, (except publicy fry the bastard in hot oil) but I wonder what one little choice they could have made, that would have changed the outcome.

I wouldn't call that a foolish game, I would call it a normal human reaction.

Lance, I hope you roll your eyes slap to Kingdom Come.:)

Prince Romeo, this is a very nice thread, thank you for the thoughts.

Lioness, intrigued, peachy, your wisdom is appreciated and respected. Lance just hates admitting he's human sometimes.

Dear Prince Romeo,
Your sentiments touched me. Such a beautiful thought. I often reflect on the paths that my journey has led me on thus far and the wonderment is always the same, what if? What if I had choosen the other path? And sometimes, I take the road less traveled and it ends up in a beautiful moment to be treasured for all time.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
but by the moments that take our breath away.

Of course it can.

It won't be this minute, though, unless a couple people show up and start talking to me. :)

This is good reason to always follow your intuition....it alters those minutes and timing that can change your life..

Reminds me of Goethe. I believe he said:
"Time is itself an element."

Thinking about it can also make one begin to wonder about past times also. Another thing this thread made me remember was that Quantum Mechanics Physicists (some of them anyway) now believe that there are infinite numbers of universes in which we each exist and every choice we could possibly make in our lives has been made in one of those universes. Mind boggling stuff to think about too. (not meaning to hijack your thread here BTW Prince R. :) )

"Ah, if life were only moments
Even now and then a bad one
But if life were only moments
Then you'd never know you had one"

Gotta love Sondheim!

It depends on whether you REALLY knew she was 14.

And whether or not the judge believes you.

I hated the "choose your own adventure" books when I was younger. I could never choose one path and put the book down when it ended. Good thing life isn't like that. We make one choice and we have to see how it plays out. It would drive me insane if I knew how different my life would be today because of a choice I makd in 1 min.! :p
