How would you feel if your name was taken from you

For example, say lavender went to sign in as a member on AOL or msn or wherever and her name was taken.

Do you feel lost without your real identity as such?

Me, It doesnt matter where I go I am the Svedish_Chef and failing that svedishrabbit... I would feel almost wrong going online as anything else.

For that is me, and if someone takes that away from me... I'm no longer there.

I know what you mean, Chef. I've been using Rubyfruit for over 10 years now. But I know other people do too, because I can't get it on AOL or Yahoo anymore. I was surprised there wasn't another Rubyfruit already here when I registered. Pleasantly surprised.

Everywhere I register my name's either a variation of the two names I'll use often. Seems odd when I go to a place without having a version of Renegade or J.C. as my registered name.

I have only once been told it was taken,and come to find out,I had signed up twice...

But without that name,its not the same.

i have a few different names i use.. it just depends on where i'm at and such.. for some reason on any bulletin board if i post an av though, i feel weird if its not my dolly that i use. i've never changed her and probably never will. but on aol and yahoo and such.. its a different name than here, but the same at both, just like anywhere else i do stuff

Personally it's just a name to me. I can however see how people can get attached.

In real life I do have a nickname that is different. I've never met anyone w/ that same name.

fortunately, about 90% of the time, if you see something posted or written by "scylis", it's me, no matter where it is. failing that, it'll be Galen Scylis, the name of my RPG character.

You'd think Naudiz wasn't a commonly taken name, but I've logged in to various boards and such to see it taken before. Doesn't bother me much. It's just a name. I've got a few handles I cycle through, and if they're all taken, I make up a new one. So far I've been: Hyacinth, Lethe, Naudiz, Damiana, and Nexus. I rarely go by my given name, though it's rarely taken. It's spelled just oddly enough that it wouldn't be hard for someone to peg me, and one of the nice things about the internet is anonymity.

Though I was surprised to find out there is someone on the net, in my town, whose first name is spelled exactly the same. We've never met, but I sometimes wonder if she gets my email. I'm pretty sure I've gotten hers before.

I hate it when I have to use any name other them Lillend. Kinda funny too, the name means nothing to me. I just chose it almost at random, but it is me now. I use it everywhere. I chose my name out of a monster manual for Dungeons and Dragons. When my name is taken I try dropping an "L" and using Lilend, had to do that at Yahoo. When I cannot use any form of Lillend I sit for 2 hours bitching before finally coming up with a name....then I find that the new name is taken too .

My name is unique. No one else has it, or at least I have never been denied the use of it. Its the only name I use for the most part. I have others I may use if I'm just running in to chat to see if certain people are there, it saves all the hellos.

There is another Georgia Girl on lit and occassionally I do get pm's from people who think I am her. We actually only live a few miles from each other.

When I first came to lit I used a different name which I have since retired as I am no longer that person. Divorce can do strange things to you.

Hehee...this reminds me of something! I tried to kill off estevie once, tried a new name...sweetlizzy. It was hard as hell telling everyone that estevie was sweetlizzy. I got over whatever fit I was in and went back to este.

LadyDarkFire, LadyofDarkFlame, or LadyDarkFlame are the names I use, and they don't seem to be taken in alot of places.
