That was the whole point. He was in the middle of a longish thread about some damn thing--I don't recall anything about it except that he was on the defensive a lot--when he popped in to say that his son had died. It was so out of the blue........

If I remember right, it was in the middle of a thread where he was being extremely nasty to people, which was totally unlike his usual personna. The way I remember it is that he posted the information about the death as a semi-explanation for the character change.

And it wasn't even the out of the blue way he announced the death, so much. It was how he'd use it for sympathy, then go on talking of something else entirely. It was just so completely phony.
