Mitch was in the News saying:

Businesses suffer because people are ‘doing too good with food stamps’

Oh, right! All those safety nets just clog up the labor market don't they, asshole?

In an interview that was published on Monday, McConnell told Politico that the 2016 presidential race was a “critical election” to restoring “the growth rates and the greatness we’ve had most of our history.”

The Kentucky Republican reportedly “scoffed” at the idea the economy was improving.

McConnell said that business leaders complained to him that they had “a hard time finding people to do the work because they’re doing too good with food stamps, Social Security and all the rest.”

Wonkette had a larger article on this story.

Still, he promises that the Senate will at least have a vote on defunding Planned Parenthood, if only to prove that it can’t actually go through. But for the most part, the main point that McConnell wants us to understand is that Senate Republicans are just waiting for the 2016 election so that come 2017, they can really get something exciting done.

Like eliminating all the food stamps and Social Security that are depriving employers of workers.

The problem is there is a small grain of truth to what he said. There are numerous articles showing what people get on food stamps/welfare/etc compared to what they would make if they worked.

Depending on the number of hours and the amount per hour, it has been shown people will make less working than they do not working.

This doesn't absolve him of his, and businesses, nonsense about people not wanting to work since other articles have shown when businesses say they can't find people what they really mean is they can't find people willing to work for a salary which hasn't been adjusted for inflation in 20 years while working over 40 hours a week. One need only look at the tech industry to see the daily lies about not being able to find people to fill jobs.

Microsoft, to use one example, lays off 5,000 people then turns around and complains they have hundreds of job openings they can't fill. Ummm.......

It's like they never heard of Supply and Demand, isn't it?

Lawless bastardry does not isolate you from the law in all cases.:)

I would answer with Krugman:

1) The Truth About Entitlements
http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/03/11/the-truth-about-entitlements/

2) Free To Be Hungry
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/23/opinion/krugman-free-to-be-hungry.html

quoting from the latter: SNAP, in short, is public policy at its best. It not only helps those in need; it helps them help themselves. And it has done yeoman work in the economic crisis, mitigating suffering and protecting jobs at a time when all too many policy makers seem determined to do the opposite.

He should have used "well" instead of "good". I suppose he's been opposed to education his whole life.
