The GOP is so far out of touch with the American people.

Mitch McConnell says Americans aren’t working because they are ‘flush’ at the moment

‘What we’ve got to hope is once they run out of money, they’ll start concluding it’s better to work than not to work’

Mitch McConnell has claimed that the US labour shortage is due to people unwilling to work because they are “flush at the moment”.

The Republican Senate Minority Leader was speaking at an event in Paducah, Kentucky on Tuesday when he pitched his theory of why businesses are struggling to hire people.

I was having this same discussion with a bunch of business owners last week….a big chunk of the average workforce stopped working during Covid and haven’t come back, even though the free government money has exited the system.

We were wondering what they’re doing for money.

Funny......employers paying starvation wages are having trouble finding people who want to starve.

Exactly. It isn't rocket science. I pay roughly double what others in my area pay for similar work. They show up. They put in extra when asked. They take pride in their work. I only have to train once. I get invited to their BBQs. Treat people well...they will treat you well

When I was running my own business, I had union workers for the most part, hired on for the job only. However all my foremen and supervisors worked for and were paid directly by me. I always paid them more than what the union rate would be if they switched jobs. I made sure they knew they were part of the success, and I shared that success with them as well with bonuses etc.

I got the message about keeping skilled loyal people around early. My success was built off their success.

One thing I find funny about this whole conversation around finding employees. We just came off a two year segment of peoples lives where things were different. I know a guy who wanted to hire 25 new employees this year, but could only hire 5. He could only get 5, since that was all that finished the college program, most dropped out, not liking or not being able to succeed at remote learning. So even offering higher wages, since the skilled employee pool is low, you have unfulfilled jobs, cause the bodies to hire just aint there......

Americans aren't working because Mitch flushed them.
