The DC establishment wants government shutdowns

This drama is so predictable that it seems like there should be a solution by now. As it turns out, there are several serious, popular, bipartisan solutions to end to this shutdown theater once and for all.

But here’s the sad truth: we keep getting into these government shutdown fights because the leadership on both sides of the aisle want it this way.

They need government shutdowns as a threat to jam through their big spending bills before the American people find out what’s in them.

I’m going to list some of the strong, bipartisan solutions to fix this problem that have been introduced in Congress. Keep in mind that, though Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said this week that a government shutdown would be “a terrible outcome for the country,” and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said it’s “critically important to the American people for the government not to shut down,” none of these solutions has been brought to the Senate floor for a vote from leaders in either party.

It ain't the Senate that's the problem. It's the dead-end nihilists in the House, and the fact that McCarthy can't enlist the Democrats for help because it would cost him the Speakership.

I don't care how long it's shut down. I'm sick of them creating a crisis so they can piss away more of the public's monies.

The press most certainly wants a shutdown because it gives them a chance to black-eye the Republicans heading into the election.

Don't forget, the longer they can drag this out, the heavier the word-butchers' thumbs are on the scale for their Party...

Feel free to explain how "the press" engineered Matt Gaetz being who and what he is

Feel free to explain why you engage in fallacious "exception proves the rule" challenges...

It is much more preferred than a failure to raise the debt ceiling.

Why have a debt ceiling if the only thing that you are ever allowed to do with it is raise it?

It completely defeats not only the purpose, but the laws of grammar.

Words should mean things.

The debt ceiling is political horaeshit and should be abolished.

But it's much more important to our economy and standing in the world.

Gaetz is absolutely right in what he's doing. The various agencies should be funded with separate spending bills. That is the way obsolete and wasteful spending is eliminated from the budget.

It's also the way cowards pork up the resolutions while railing against pigs...

Feel free to explain how reporting the facts is giving a thumb on the scale black-eye to the Republicans heading into the election.

If you haven't noticed in the last incarnations of this tired old act,
the reporting always blames this of Republicans by equating fiscal responsibility to things like obstruction and intransigence.

It's just their SOP...

There's never (maybe rarely) stories about how Democrats want to loot the taxpayers to buy votes.
It's always about the people being hurt starting with government employees who know two things for sure and well in advance:
1). The government IS going to shut down, Democrats need it politically, so be prepared financially, and
2). Everyone involved is going to get their back pay when the dust settles.

The OP and the usual RWCJ suspects are such gullible fools.

The author of that opinion piece is a "republican" Senator with a Net worth of $137 million, and the "bipartisan" Rick Scott - Joe Manchin "no -pay" bill conveniently wouldn’t affect him or the bill’s rich authors.

🙄

The bipartisan Lankford - Hassan bill isn’t getting passed because the rich "republicans" that want to renege on their "big win" debt limit deal numbers would lose leverage in their bid to slash funding of social safety net spending and earned benefits. - Unsurprisingly, James Lankford, the "republican" co-sponsor of the bill isn’t rich, and has shown some indications of having a soul.

Currently, the only ones orchestrating a government shutdown are traitorous "republicans" who are likely receiving money from Putin to tank the US economy.

America’s credit rating took a hit during the "republican" debt ceiling crisis, and it will likely take a hit from this "republican" government shutdown crisis.

JFC

SAD!!!

Isn't the polling indicating economic hardship?

I'm sure backpay helps there.

Yeah, the Trumpers are real patriots. They fight with their own party and will burn it to the ground if there is any sign of wanting to work with the Dems.
