Comments That Make Your Day

Now that ASSTR is dead, I wondered about whether or not readers of my old stories on there had sent me comments in the years after I stopped paying attention to my ASSTR site. I had set up a submit form to email me whatever people typed into a box on my old ASSTR page, and it turns out I had NOT set it up to my old no longer existing hotmail email, but to another one that actually still works.

So I just found 20 years of old comments - some of which I had read back in the day, and others were gems like this one:

Comments = Yes i am an adult

Thank you, glad that was the case. :D

I tried getting into Asstr the other day and got a "can't find" message. So it's gone? How sad. Used to love Kirstens.

Someone has read the first few parts of a slow-burn story I'm writing, and said some kind things about the dialogue and introspection, also commenting "Definitely intriguing not to mention bit bizarre — both characters and storyline" - I was really tickled to read that, as I'm definitely trying to write something a bit unusual.

This definitely brightened my day, especially while I'm in the midst of struggling to finish another story.

'My goodness, I continue to read here, as I have time, and thoroughly enjoy your writing! Have you thought of reaching out to make some of your Romance category stories published for screenplay, such as Lifetime Channel, on Direct TV? They are just perfect, and I love to come home from work and read one of your stories. So relaxing, and titillating, and perfect for a glass of wine, a candle, and relaxing! Thank you once again for sharing your talent! I just wanted you to know how much I enjoy, as your reader!'

@electricblue66 You bloody legend! Thank you so much. This comment on Interview had me grinning from ear to ear.

(Also, full disclosure: it's only my third story on Lit. I've been writing fiction off and on for most of my life.)

Seriously? You wrote this because you could, so you wrote this?

Astonishingly good is what this is: music, Grace, your narrator, all brilliantly captured. And it's your third story? Fuck.

This is a bit like when Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck were going upstairs to the club to hear Hendrix for the first time. They met Pete Townshend coming down the stairs. "What's he like?" Page asked. "We all need to learn to play the fucking guitar," Townshend replied.

I'm often disappointed by how few readers bother to read the final chapter of a story. But I was pleased to see that someone really liked the ending of my story Finally Ch. 4.

'Wow I wish I could give it more than 5 stars it was the best story ever I honestly didn’t think I could read the rest when they got there wires crossed and thought they’d broken up but I’m so glad I did thank you'

Lol. Someone has just figured out I'm "a little wordy", but liked something, anyway.

This was a nice comment for my recent story, 'About That Kiss':

Such a cute story and obviously a 5. Just 13 previous comments?
Readers: This is a hidden gem.

Ohh noooooo, I liked ASSTR. There were some great stories on that site, mixed in with a lot of dross. And yeah, Kirsten's was good, altho it's a long long time since I looked. That's such a shame, but I guess they'd been struggling to keep it up and running for a long time.

Another nice comment on April Fool - No Longer :)

Always look under the bed you never know what you may find. Excellent story with so few words.

A regular reader often asks me to provide them with examples of the music and such that I put in my stories, which versions I like best, etc. It's gratifying to know that they want to hear what's going on in my noggin while I write.

The last thing I showed them was 'Alexa' dancing to George Thorogood and the song 'Willie and the Hand Jive'. Lol, they said it kept them rapt in 'Repeat' for nearly an hour... 🤣

Yes, the dancing gif is from 'Hang On, Sloopy', but Alexa dancing is the thing.

I love my readers.

I’ve had a reader who has been with me since he found my first story. He always leaves the nicest, most enthusiastic and thoughtful comments. A few days ago I sent him a message to say thanks, and got this in reply. I’m speechless:

I deeply appreciate that you took time to message me.

I very nearly left a second comment on 'Interview' when I saw how many people couldn't follow the final scene in the bar. Too nuanced, I suppose. I could imagine you reading them and shaking your head. Yes, I'm the guy that goes back to read other peoples comments.

I was definitely waiting for a reader to point out you never gave him, the "kid", a name.

Same thing in Juxtapositions.

Same thing in Spotlight.

I'll trail you from category to category because you're that good. I'm a middle-aged gay guy who hasn't been near a vagina since I was 22 but if you're going to write about them, I'm going to read about them. I"m going to cheer you on. Seriously. Anyone who drops Mad Dog 20/20 and the Butthole Surfers casually into the narrative has my attention.

Make no mistake, it's self-serving! I hope to read your writings for years to come.

Your fan,

I can see this guy going up to that Hendrix gig. He knows what he's on about!

Your challenge, should you accept it, is to write pussy to turn this gay guy straight!

Don't fuck about now :).

Well, that's a hard couple of posts to follow! ;)

But anyway, this morning's nice comment on April Fool - No Longer. I'm not sure why this one keeps cropping up lately.

Not usually a fan of the 750 word thing but this one is excellent. Well done

A few months ago a reader went through all my stories and left encouraging comments as he read each one. Some examples:

On Top Floor to Ourselves: "Finally, a writer. There are so few of those here, it's a pleasure to discover one... I'm off to read some of your other writing."

On Through the Woods: "You've become one of my favorite authors, anywhere. The subtle nuances and lack of pausing the story for boring descriptions is the stuff of literature, which is almost impossible to find on this site."

Seaside with Two Sisters: "I'm going to be really disappointed when my reading catches up with your writing."

Like No One's Watching: "I'm going to like this... going from one story to next, anticipating the buildup, knowing what's coming but wondering how well end up there. The best part will be knowing I won't need to read garbage between stories. That's my favorite part of finding a writer here."

In Her Eyes: "...You're of that rare breed here: an author. I am certain now of why I follow you. It's for days like today when magic appears on my screen. Thank you for taking your craft seriously."

When your stories tend to run more than 5 Litpages long you're asking the reader to commit to reading for more than 17 minutes and to reading more than just a quick stroke story. When I get comments that showed the reader did this AND enjoyed the doing? That's awesome. All my stories have some element of humor in them and I really enjoy it when readers enjoy that as well.

I appreciate that at one level this is just a dominance fantasy (and as a dominance fantasy it's a good and very sexy one). But it is well enough written with good enough and sustained enough characterisation that it rises above the genre. I honestly believe that if you took the core narrative and toned down the explicit sex a bit you would have a publishable novel. This is good enough to merit taking itself more seriously.
Story here.

From your writing style, the story itself, the characters... you should have sold this! I'm glad you placed it here though as I completely enjoyed it. Yeah more sex would have been nice, but no one reads a story this long if they're just looking for stroke material!! Story here.

i don't know why but that made me laugh for ages. love the characters just for that :). Story here.

As a teen, I loved pirate stories even without the sex. A well written story of an intelligent female and an honorable male. The twists and turns from the shame of defeat to the glory of victory is what a pirate story should be about. You have created a strong, intelligent, and honorable lady, and a wrongfully charged, shamed, and brave rapist and lover. The battle scenes were realistic and the love scenes passionate. a wonderful and innovative love story. Story here.

I agree, you're an excellent writer.

Aww gee, Smutty *blush* Very kind of you to say.

I bet lots of authors here have had readers discover their writing with similar thoughts as they read every story. If only more readers left appreciative comments like this as they did so.

Another nice comment this morning on April Fool - No Longer.

Really enjoyed this quickie. I've only recently found your stories, Hidden Boss and Homeless, and I enjoyed them immensely. I'll definitely be reading more of them!

"Oh to have half your talent at writing erotica!"

That really stroked my ego.

I always enjoy the short and sweet: “keep writing!” Comments I get every once in awhile. Tho I obviously don’t need anyones permission to do so, it feels good when someone actively wants me to keep writing.

I always like the, "Thanks for sharing" comments, especially when they say, "Thank you both for sharing." Because that's when you know you've nailed it, when readers think the protagonists are real, and you've given them a slice of your life.
