I've received 10(!) whole comments for my Nude Day story https://literotica.com/s/the-champion-and-her-prize. That's pretty good for me, but a couple of comments went on about how it was inappropriate for Jane's coach to have sex with her. Never mind that a) Andy isn't really her coach, and b) Jane is over 18 and asked Andy to puncture her hymen.

Then I received this from sensible Anon, which restored my faith in my readers.

"Wow. The fact that he's an older, experienced man is bs. I don't know many guy's - regardless of those factors - that would have acted any differently in that situation IRL. And yeah, it's about a coach and an athlete, so what? Why is that even an issue? Nitpick much? It's fiction.... it's erotica.... it's fantasy.... it doesn't have to be politically correct. Can't help but wonder if the same type of comments are left for daddy/daughter, brother/sister stories. Get over it. It's a story like any other - a good one - and well written. I hope there's a part two."

I smile at a lot of the comments on my story, both the good and the occasional not, but this one on Hammered: Big City, Dark Nights, my noir-type ode to Mickey Spillane, really made my day:

It was like listening to the radio back at about 1954 or 1955. Those great old cop dramas we used our imaginations to make far more real and exciting than the television would a couple of years later. Great story and a five only because they do not allow a ten.

Wow, what a beautiful read. The loving and the build up was so touching. I loved the pace and progression from colleague to friend to lover. They both needed it but happened because they wanted it, was never about settling. Because of our losses, we are able to appreciate our new gains better...! I can appreciate a well written piece but what I appreciate most is when that piece can move me in a very touching way. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to reading all your stories...!

I had spent a lot of time crafting the story with a lot of input from some female friends. It was rewarding to have that recognized.

I started reading this early morning today and I knew it was the wrong time of my day and I knew I needed time to read it straight through, uninterrupted. Seconding what Smuttyandfun said -- don't stress about the haters. It says a lot about them that they have nothing better to do than leave shitty comments on stories they get to read for free.

It's worth noting though that Lit does give writers the option to turn off comments, if you really don't want to deal with them. People can still send private feedback that comes through to your email address but they don't get published on the story.

Was it realistic....well, maybe almost sorta. It did get a little over the top, especially at the end.

Did it grab my attention and hold it through the whole story? Yes, yes it did. I came right up to the edge of 'crashing out of the story in disbelief", but never went over the line.

And that, and only that, is what makes a good piece of fiction. Nice job!

I really appreciate your attention to detail during the action scenes in your story - I don’t know much about surfing but I can visualize all of the runs, same with the choreography for the squad. It also enhances the sex scenes - really well done. Looking forward to the conclusion of this story and perhaps more with the same characters!

Around here, them as can do. Them as can’t write nasty comments. I’ve yet to see any nasties from somebody whose work I admire.

I’ll accept - and try to learn from - negative comments if they’re signed. Anonymous negativity is like misspelled scrawlings on bridge abutments, no more than reflections on the shallowness and crimped souls of those who wrote them, something to be ignored and, eventually, painted over.

I smiled at one comment I received, seriously me warning of the dangers of STIs and pregnancy, with my story characters having had bareback sex. It wasn’t like contraception or condoms were stressed or even mentioned in the story, but this well-intentioned reader (sincerely trying to be helpful, I think) took the time to make me aware. Well, bless them for the thought.
