The readers here really need to step it up with their feedback if they want authors to continue to post here. It's bad. It's the only repayment we get, people! Take 2 minutes to drop a line. We took several hours to get you off.

Good job. Atta boy. :)

I will comment on your stories as soon as you comment on my Am Pics submissions.

In my opinion, they can keep their comments to themselves.

We spend months sometimes drafting, editing, rewriting, and then editing some more and what we get for comments mostly come from the fruitcakes , flakes, and the burn the bitch crowd. And calling them "comments" is actually being nice. Some of that crap is horrific and influences other readers.

Yes, a few are great. To them I say thank you for enjoying my story. But they are far far far outweighed by the nut jobs who scream at you over a piece of fiction.

I keep my comments turned off for this reason.

Votes, however, are a different thing entirely.

Mmm. That's a mighty long time. You might wanna dial it down as your audience may not be so sophisticated.

This isn't a knock on your efforts and the time put into it, but when I'm in a hurry, I can rub one out in...oh, about under two minutes. I'm mean, I'll do an hour or two stroke sesh if I have the space, but...ugh. That first peak climb is hard to resist, yanno?

I hear you, OP, I LIVE for that shit.

Lit is really bad for not leaving feedback, though. As a general rule I've heard that you only get like 1 comment per 1000 views. So... you pretty much HAVE to learn to lower your expectations.

Honestly though, I don't get it. I don't know how the hell I'm supposed to improve if no one tells me what I'm doing wrong. I made a thread similar to this one, and they told me to take my work to the feedback forum- and it was SUPER helpful. It's the stuff you expect from comments on newer sites. So I would 100% recommend that you try it out.

The only people that take this dirty story writing shit seriously are the writers (and perhaps the owners, or maybe they once they did).

In reality, CC is correct. Unless we get feedback we don't improve our skills as authors. I differ in my preferences about how that feedback is made.

I actually commented on stories. I’ve sent certain authors normal feedback. Thought your stuf was good maybe do this and I would have liked it more.

Not One single person ever replied. I assume they get trolled so much they don’t even want comments

I actually did the math on my own, and I've gotten one comment per 5k views. Rough estimate, less the half were positive or had any constructive crit. That math is what prompted the op. .02%.

Lol! I was referring to the time it takes to write a story. Not the amount of time of a successful proofread. :)

Several hours?

I spend about a month on each chapter and, really, I don't think anyone gets off on my stories.

Where do you post?

Screw comments. Smart people turn that stupid shit off. I don't need their pissing and moaning.

This may possibly be the way of the future for me. Critical Anons suck. Most of 'me probably couldn't write an error free grocery list. Yet if every word isn't perfect in your story they'll tell you all about it then go to your other stories to nit pick and down vote those too.

So, do you want critics or not?

Rate the story. That critiques it's worth to the reader. If you absolutely must give feedback then do so. Even with comments off, you can still PM the author.

I don't get very many PM's for my stories. I believe it's because of two things. PM's are harder to write than a quick nasty comment and I think Lit tracks the accounts of those who send the PM's and the anonaholes aren't so anonymous that way. The few PM's I do get are usually very nicely worded about what, where, and how the sender would like to see the story improved for them or where I went too fast and skipped something critical that breaks the reader's engagement with the story.

Other than that, for feedback I use followers, favorites, and ratings to tell me if I did a good job or not. I don't have many followers (30-something) but I have 2 H's in 3 stories and a good number of favorites for each of them. That tells me a lot about my work.

And I don't have to put up with anonaholes.
