SexGuyAZ said:So I must ask, anyone here in frats or sororities?
Me personally, no, some of my friends are and I always make the joke that they pay for friendship.
RunningHard said:I was in a frat, and while you paid for some friends, others came naturally. It was more like paying for the club and connections.

Yes I am in a fraternity. I am in a local fraternity here on my campus. I did not pledge till my junior year which means I only have one year to live in the house (one semester right now)...but I still did. I would not trade it for anything in the world. Through pledging I was put in with a group of people, of whom I knew 1 outside of the club other than seeing them hangout at parties and such. After pledging, I can trust them with anything and I know that if I ever need anything they are there. Not only my pledgebrothers but also my other fraternity brothers. I don't always get along with everyone in the club and such, but they are there for me when I need them and I'm there for them. I don't pay for those friendships, my dues go towards upkeep on the house and for parties and stuff we use. There is no other fraternity quite like mine, and that's a good thing. True, I can't go to some other school that has my fraternity and just hang out with them, but yet at the same time, we don't have to put up with all the crap I see our national greek clubs going through. We can just be us, and we have the ultimate decision making in how we want our club to move. Pledging was a royal pain in the neck, and was incredibly tough. However, it was the most fun thing I have ever done, though I wouldn't do all of it again. I'm digressing from the topic though.
The main reasons I wanted to pledge and join were these:
1) I was good friends with most everyone in the club beforehand.
2) I knew I would fit in with them and it would feel right, which it does.
3) I wanted to pledge somewhere where the letters actually meant something, and here they do compared to some of the frats at my school
4) It appealled to me.

However, since I didn't, and I am just a "lowly" CC student, it's ok.
Besides, I did enough frat living (better known as heavy drinking) in both the Navy AND the Army to last me a lifetime...
So now, I drink slowly and less, but enjoy it a little more. Well, not always slowly, but I definitely enjoy it a lot.![]()
