It was humorous, Jomar, and usually it is my posts that get dozens of reads and no commentary, so I thought to comment at about read 28, but I was sure Cloudy would come out scratching and clawing and claiming that many Native American Tribes were Matrilineal, and I didn't want the conflict.

Regret you felt the necessity to delete your post....

I recently read two old Westerns in which SQUAW MAN is used in the text. The term referred to a sissy or white man abused and exploited by braves. The modern meaning is a white man who marries an Indian. PC has infected the redman, too.

"Squaw" is a derivative of an Algonquin word that my ex mother-in-law would wash my mouth out with soap if she heard me use it.

It isn't "PC" not to want to be called that. An uneducated mind is a very sad thing, James.

Huh. Can't find that email I cut and pasted from. Anyway, it's that old one where the Indian Chief is talking to some guy and saying how before the white man came there was plenty of buffalo, women did all the work, men hunted and had fun, etc. The punchline was that only the white man would think they could improve on that. I was baiting you a bit on the women doing all the work thing, but I realized it could be read two ways. So...less funny.

My friends, I am sure you all already know this; when someone uses "pussy" to mean the whole woman, it's offensive.

If someone speaking one of the algonquin languages uses 'squaw" to refer to a specific part of the anatomy, it isn't offensive-- although Cloudy's grandmother might not agree with that!
