Some cast, huh? I wonder if Jim Sturgess will get to sing. If Tom Hanks will get to act the fool. If Hallie Berry will show her Academy Award winning breasts. And on and on.

Maybe I'll go sit with a bunch of texting strangers and watch it.

it's good to know you're going in with an open mind

Yup. Plus Hugo Weaving and Hugh Grant.

Pretty much all the elements are there for a massive dud. I hope the film shakes the trend.

I have no idea what it's about. It's one of those instances would I be better served not to know or read the book and look for the holes. It smells of reincarnation.

That's part of the dud formula.

It's pretty high concept, and they don't want to scare audiences off.

As one reviewer at Film.com said, "'Cloud Atlas' is like the entire 'Matrix' trilogy in micro."

Sturgess goes yellowface in this film for the last third and when called out on it earlier this past summer, he was a straight up asshole about it. It would've been no harm for this particular ensemble film or his career to cast an actual Korean actor to play the future part of the character when he "transforms" into another race. This is the bullshit that H'wood does with POC when you're not name brand.

So, while I'm interested to see how it's put together from a technical and effects standpoint, I'm not paying into the machine to go see it. Easy to sneak into films here if you know when and where to go.

in the immortal words of ice cube (before he sold out): fuck hollywood!

I read it several years back. It was a bit hard to get at first but when it starts coming together it's very entertaining. It almost seems like (and really is) separate stories, but the author brings it all full circle and I was left with a very satisfying ahhhh at the end...

See how you just rationalized stealing on the grounds that Sturgess plays a yellow face Jolson? Playing the race card comes with inherent moral requirements or it's meaningless.

The book's fantastic, one of the cleverest things I've read in years. I'm really not expecting much from the flick, though.

No Matrix magic? Or like me do you lower your expectations in order to be occasionally surprised?

I really don't know how they're going to capture the different styles from the book. Five different directors maybe? Still, I'm not the world's greatest Tom Hanks fan. I'll probably Pirate Bay it.

Tell your sob stories to Sturgess and the Wachowskis. They won't miss my seventeen bucks, but I'll definitely enjoy spending it on some bourbon specials after the show. And you wanna talk about some actual stealing, there's several heads here who'll be downloading that flick off torrent sites into their hard drive as soon as it hits instead of going to see it in the theaters.

This isn't Avatar and POC actors getting conveniently overlooked, shunned or blacklisted out of big movie marquee roles they definitely fit and could very well shine in is nothing new and isn't a disposable, ignorable quirk of the industry. You show your support for the things you feel about in your way and I'll do the same in mine.

I see. Your stealing is good stealing; theirs is bad. I get it. Yep.

It costs seventeen dollars to see a movie these days???

It's been awhile...

That's just the regular price in Manhattan at the moment for first-run features. Some theaters give you matinees prices, but you have to be in the outer boroughs, the 'burbs or go to off-the-beaten path cinemas. Going to Times Square, for example, that ain't happening.

Unless you're high rolling or just don't care about funds, seeing a movie here means that you really want to see that movie.

Do you realise how much this makes you look like a victim, victim?
