No oversimplification, it's a real world possibility, kind of like when US troops were not allowed to fire into Mosques even when the enemy was shooting at them from inside them.

the Japanese did that in the battle of Manila, we had to kill tens of thousands of civilians in order to kill the Japanese. MacArthur's solution was to try and execute the Japanese commanders involved.

Left unsaid is the entirety of Gaza is a crowded urban menage of cities and villages with incredibly high population densities.

In a perfect world there would be Hamas military barracks for Israeli jets to bomb....but there aren't.

Hamas has perfected techniques learned from Vietnam: an extensive network of tunnels by and large unaffected by Israeli air superiority. This has forced Israel to rely upon ground troops which to date has not gone well for the IDF. The IDF rolls in a tank company, and a Hamas militant pops out of a "spider hole" and fires an anti-tank round clear through the Israeli armor at almost point blank range.

This is asymmetrical warfare at its best, which used to be called "guerilla war". Hamas won't parade its military strength the way the Nazis did in WW2, they're content to grind Israel down in a war of attrition just like Ho Chi Minh did to defeat American forces in Vietnam.

There is already grumbling in the Israeli press about everyday citizens not pleased with how Hamas was able to deliver a sucker punch against the supposedly infallible IDF, and virtually no Israeli wants to see a ground conflict, because that means Israeli troop casualties (blowing the shit out of opponents via the Israeli Air Force is acceptable provided the opponent has minimal air defense artillery capability...much fewer Israeli casualties).

And a growing number of folks in Israel are seeing this war as a ploy to strengthen proto-fascist dictator-wannabee Bibi Netanyahu consolidate his grip on Israeli political power.

....but hai, what do I know? I'm not an Israeli.

Our whole problem is the leadership our country suffers under. Joe has set us up perfectly for foreign attacks on our soil. They are already here and he welcomed them with open arms. It happened while the FBI and the intelligence community were immersed in the war against free speech, pissed-off parents at School board meetings, infiltrating Twitter, and Facebook while wringing their hands over white men in the military.

There's your problem...you see the movie about Nazis and world war 2 and instead think it's about something else. Nazis working to commit genocide an to destroy the world order is not about Jews...it's about Nazis being despicable.
