(CNN)–After barring a black couple from marrying in its Mississippi facility in late July, the First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs released a statement Sunday apologizing for its actions.

“We, the church, realize that the Hendersons and Wilsons should never have been asked to relocate their wedding. This wrong decision resulted in hurt and sadness for everyone. Both the pastor and those involved in the wedding location being changed have expressed their regrets and sorrow for their actions,” the church said.

Te’Andrea and Charles Wilson planned for months to marry at the First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs but were asked at the last minute to move.

Their pastor, Stan Weatherford, made the request on behalf of some congregants who didn't want to see the couple married there, according to CNN affiliate WLBT. He performed the ceremony at a nearby church.

Sunday’s statement follows a string of apologies from First Baptist and its congregation for turning away the young couple.

“As a church, we express our apology to Te’Andrea and Charles Wilson for the hurt that was brought to them in the hours preceding their wedding and beyond. We are seeking forgiveness and reconciliation with our Lord Jesus Christ, Te’Andrea and Charles, family and friends of the Hendersons and Wilsons, our church family, and our community for the actions and attitudes that have recently occurred,” the statement continued.

Despite the church’s recent statements, the Wilsons aren’t convinced of the congregations' sincerity, they said, calling the recent release “an insult” and “misleading to the public.”

“The pastor has not spoken to us since a couple days after the incident. We have not heard from the pastor or any church official since the incident,” Charles Wilson said Sunday.

Oh, sure, they apologize now, after their pigheaded racist bullshit got on the national news and made them look like the idiots they are. I'm not buying the apology.

I couldn't agree with you more, gravyrug, my Brother. When theses self-righteous, "holier-than-thou" hippocrites get caught in the act nowadays, they always like to say they are. However, the damage is done. This is why I believe that Christian Churches - along with many other institutions of organized religion - are undoing themselves almost every year.

The English dictionary reveals that the English word "church" which is used in our English Bible is taken from the late Greek word "kyridakon" not"ekklesia." The Greek word "kyridakon" is not found in the New Testament and only came into being in the 16th Century long after New Testament times. Thus the English word "church" cannot be translated back into Greek because there is no word in the New Testament Greek that is the equivalent of the understanding of the English word.

http://bible-truth.org/Ekklesia.html

"ekklesia" is what the Greek New Testament gives us and we've bastardized its meaning to what we all relate to as "church" today.

I prefer the interpretation of ekklesia which fixes its meaning as to call out, or those called out; called out from what, you may ask...

...called out from the ways of this world, of course, to follow His Word.

It's easy to see how the Anglos screwed-up in fabricating "church" to mean an assembly of those called out...

...but the modern meaning of the word "church" has nothing to do with the actions of those called out.

When I first read of this circumstance a week or so ago, I discerned that it was just a few individuals who balked to the pastor and the pastor, instead of turning to the Spirit for guidance and courage, obviously acted on his own to deny two of his flock God's blessing.

Thus, the modern "church" - from the time Constantine made it an agent of the state - is nothing but statist in effect...

Damn hippocrites.

my guess is that he turned to the pledge card for guidance.

Meanwhile, synogogue refuses to marry any non-Jews and there is no feigned "outrage" from the national media.

And where's FrizzleFry with his incoherent ramblings about "freedom" and "choice" in this thread?

Just because I gotta know, why would someone who's not a Jew want to get married in a synagogue?

I had an aunt (by marriage so no blood there) who got kicked out of a church once. She went there for some time and then one day they asked her not to come back. Nobody knows why. She was batshit crazy so it's not really surprising but it was always a joke in the family that aunt Carmen got kicked out of a church.
Speaking of aunt Carmen, I wonder if she's still alive. She divorced my uncle long ago and he died and his kids are grown and one, if she's even alive anymore was a hooker/addict and the boy was an addict who was living on the streets. Never heard anything about Carmen after the divorce but her kids couldn't go to her.
Huh. Might have to ask dad about that. He hated that bitch so he probably knows exactly where she is.

It is man's sinful nature which directs him in following a collective (church)...

...instead of the Individual.

Spot the hippocrate.

I noticed in the article said they were not official members of the church but had attended (what ever that means). They would have been the first black couple married in the church's history. I'm wondering if this was really a political act or statement on behalf of the couple. It doesn't mean the church wasn't wrong though.

Christ, grow a pair and say what you want to say already...

Maybe but the story has been from the beginning that everything was ok until the last minute and that the minister had been pressured by some of the congregation. Doesn't feel like a set up.

Exactly. The ceremony was already scheduled, then canceled by the pastor after he got grief from some of the congregation. If they'd been told from the beginning that they had to be members, or some such reason, there wouldn't have been a problem.

I can see the Deacon's meeting on this issue:

"All in favor of enforcing this rule which we have violated many times in the past and holding our church and congregation up to ridicule and condemnation from the entire nation and appear to be hypocrites who violate the teachings of our church, say aye.

The minister is the most pathetic one. He was weak and instead of taking the opportunity to teach his congregation something he chose to let them bully him into something he knew was wrong. It is his job to help them do the right thing and he just caved in.

A church isn't entitled to exercise its right to freedom of association/ disassociation?

There's no issue here, move along folks. People are free to start any kind of church they want, allow any members they want or reject any they don't. A black church could refuse to marry whites too. Who the hell cares???

What's wrong is the media and PC freaks making a national issue over nothing.

You haven't lived in the bible belt have you? You are thinking logically and forgetting the true word of gawwdd. Remember the nutjob church that thought it would be a really swell idea to have a public burning of the koran.
