Christian Evangelists, Corporations, and Government Ride in the Same Cart

What happened, today ? House Republicans voted for something, and did not bother to read what was written down.

May 4, 2017 The Republicans said tl;dr

Joe Wilson, infamous for disrespecting President Obama, during a televised broadcast of Obama's speech before a joint session of Congress, with an accusation about ACA coverage, read a "brief."

"There are also those who claim that our reform efforts would insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false. The reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally," Obama said.

It was at that point Wilson made his now-infamous exclamation ("You lie!"), sparking boos and Obama's retort: "It's not true."

Today, the Christian Evangelists rejoiced, and the men they have elected, drank beer in Washington, DC

Except for a thoughtful few, Republicans were rejoicing about the fact that babies, and school children will get rationed care, and lose services ? Funds removed from schools ?

This week, Republicans made it very clear that they do not care about anyone, but themselves.

The bill would block federal payments to Planned Parenthood for a year, considered a triumph by many anti-abortion Republicans.

President Obama's health care plan attacked by the House of Representatives

May 4, 2017

The legislation cuts more than a $1 trillion in federal healthcare assistance to low- and moderate-income Americans, primarily through a historic retrenchment in Medicaid, the half-century-old government health plan for the poor.

It stands to reverse an expansion of healthcare under Obamacare that has brought the nation’s uninsured rate to the lowest level recorded — an additional 20 million Americans have gained coverage.

Potentially faring best in the House bill would be wealthy Americans and the insurance industry, which would benefit from as much as $600 billion thanks to the bill’s elimination of taxes under Obamacare that have helped pay for the coverage expansion. Several studies have shown that Trump’s own supporters, living in conservative, rural areas, would fare the worst, paying higher premiums or losing benefits.

Which of our elected officials are not ultra- rich?

Republican Rep. Diane Black (Tennessee) is very rich.
Republican Rep. Darrell Issa (California) is very rich.

Democrat Nancy Pelosi ( San Francisco) is not poor. But, she chooses to support people that are not rich. "

"You vote for this bill, you'll have walked the plank from moderate to radical," said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., warning Republicans that voters would punish them. "You will glow in the dark on this one."

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), meanwhile, called the measure a “very sad, deadly joke.”

Pointing to the hundreds of billions of dollars in tax cuts, she said the bill “will have the biggest transfer of wealth in the history of our country — Robin Hood in reverse.”

Each state would have the right to apply for waivers to allow insurers to offer policies that don’t cover the 10 essential health benefits currently mandated by Obamacare. For those wondering about those essential requirements, here they are:
Ambulatory patient services (outpatient care you get without being admitted to a hospital)
Emergency services
Hospitalization (surgery and overnight stays)
Pregnancy, maternity, and newborn care (before and after birth)
Mental health and substance use disorder services, including behavioral health treatment
Prescription drugs
Rehabilitative and habitative services and devices (services to help people with injuries, disabilities, or chronic conditions gain or recover mental and physical skills)
Laboratory services
Preventative and wellness services and chronic disease management

Pediatric services, including oral and vision care for children

Those are the benefits Trumpcare 3.0 will allow states to opt-out of requiring insurance companies to cover. What that means is, for anyone with pre-existing conditions living within any state that opts-out of requiring those coverages, they’ll no longer be protected from discrimination
by health insurance companies.

"...would slash Obamacare's taxes, phase out its generous Medicaid expansion, cut down on its tax credits and — thanks to some last-minute maneuvering to win conservative support -— allow states to opt out of many of Obamacare's protections and coverage requirements."

Members of Congress, and members of their staff, will not be vulnerable, if Obama's ACA coverage disappears ?

Last week House Republicans took a PR hit when Vox reported that the portion of the American Health Care Act that revokes Obamacare's guarantee of coverage for pre-existing conditions includes a section that requires insurers to continue guaranteeing pre-existing condition coverage to members of Congress.

House of Representatives also voted to close a loophole that would have exempted members of Congress and their staff members from possibly losing certain protections from their insurance plans. Meanwhile, lawmakers took no action to protect millions of veterans from potentially losing access to healthcare tax credits if this bill passes.

Republicans will need Democratic votes to eliminate an embarrassing loophole that they created themselves.

President Trump’s efforts to promote religious freedom are thinly-veiled efforts to unleash his conservative religious base into the political arena while also using religion to discriminate," ACLU director Anthony Romero said in a statement. "It’s a dual dose of pandering to a base and denying reproductive care. We will see Trump in court, again.”

We left West Side Highway between 43rd and 45th around 8:45. How did the march to TT go? That seems pretty anti-climatic.
