So it is ok for 7 year old children to be slaves for the good of a billion dollar sports wear manufaturer but it is not ok for a 17 year old to fight to preserve the freedom of his country.

Maybe someone should explain this to me because it doesn't make any sense to me. In my country (Britian) you are an adult at the age of 16 and fighting in the military is an honorable occupation, you restore freedom and liberty all around the world. On the other hand Nike and huge corparations like it take away freedom and the childhood of these tiny workers to save a few dollars to make rich men even richer.

Sort of echoes...

...my sentiments except for one thing.

There is always this idea that the money goes into the pockets of the faceless "rich", but the real benefit of child labour is that your everyday men and women on the street can buy something cheaper and keep the money in their own pockets.

Yes...

...I have many Asian friends and am able to talk to them frankly without any offence taken.

Whenever they come back from India with piles of clothes at give-away prices they tend to boast about the prices and how cheap the country is.

When I mention child labour they can't argue against me because they know it's true but they do go a bit quiet. As long as there are consumers who want to buy cheap there will be suppliers willing to provide.

forced child labor is disgusting these kids should be getting an education and enjoying their childhoods.

It is because of all these reasons that I try to only buy things that I know was manufactured in this country, I refuse to wear any of the designer sports wear and I do not purchase anything that was manufactured anywhere but Britian. I freely admit that I am somewhat lacking in my knowledge of foreign affairs but I atleast know that in this country their are laws against forcing children to do all the dirty work for a pittence.

This Post

For everyone out there wondering why I started this thread with a post that on its own seems to make no sense at all, it was supposed to be a reply to another thread about child labour and child soldiers. I don't know why it is a thread on its own, I must have pressed something wrong.

Anyway I just thought I would explain as this thread is a little confusing on its own.

Kathy Lee Giffort certainly thinks so. She stood on stage and cried about the discovery of her company running a "SWEAT SHOP" but she said nothing about closing it down.
