Cherries

I love them.

They may be my favorite fruit, red but not too red, ripe and bursting with sweet flavor - maybe a tiny bit tart.

They're in the grocery stores now and just bought a couple pounds. Yes! A couple pounds of ripe, wonderful, first of the season cherries. I've got a bowl of them here now, cold from the fridge.

I like all the rest of the fruits but cherries are really special.
Cherries mean that winter is gone and the sun is back to stay for a long time. They mean that the days will be long and warm. They mean it's time to relax, to loosen up, to go outside and stay there for extended periods.

I love cherries.

You can have my share. Cherries are disguting and the never fail to make me gag. The only place I like cherry is when it's artificially flavored shots in limeades and coca cola. Everything else turns my stomach.

Strawberries, though. Yummmmy.

We grow a lot of strawberries in Louisiana. They got a lot of places where you go pick your own and then pay as you leave.

I can remember being a little boy and picking them on my grandfather's farm.

You know what I miss? Kumquats. When I lived in Jacksonville I ate them constantly.....

Cherries were my favorite fruit as a child. I still love them. *smile* It was always a real treat when they were in season and my parents brought them home.

You know what?
This is so weird for me, i don't do stuff like this, ever, but i gotta hear riff talk about cherries. On the phone, riff, me and you. Sometime. I've talked to people from the deep south before and can hardly understand them, quite frankly, but there's something happening to me around the idea of cherries and a low deep southern drawl.

You know, if the mere thought of riff's drawl talking about goddam cherries can get me going then i'm in way worse shape than i thought i know. Hell, riff's a non-decadently-chocolate-raspberry-boy(1). I don't do those. I think it's about time i found one of my own kind and got laid properly. (Uh. Properly for me.)

Still, i want to hear about cherries on the phone by someone talking in a low deep southern drawl. I'm fixating on the idea...
