Character Crushes

I have often found myself wishing that the female lead characters in two of my series were real and I could have the same relationship that my “alter ego” lead male character has with them, is that close enough?

I actually feel envious of my lead character sometimes because he’s already managed a higher body count in the seven stories I’ve written so far (and it’s going to go up) plus he’s had way better overall experiences, too… it’s like I live vicariously through my own creation. Weird, innit?
Oh I live in that same conundrum indeed. I very much finish a writing session and get sad to leave my characters behind because they don't follow me from my computer screen.

...get sad to leave my characters behind because they don't follow me from my computer screen.

I'm facing exactly that with a series written over two years. I've already written the ending; just a little bit of development to that point remains. What's sadder is there will be no sequel possible, at least not publishable due to Literotica rules.

Oh that's no good. Sorry mate. That's a lot of time to put into it. Maybe there's a world for them elsewhere beyond the platform.

It has to be Octavia Worblehat-Stein, the Enchantress, the most powerful magical being in the multiverse. When she enchanted the man she wanted to marry she accidentally got herself enchanted by him. Hilarity ensues.

Oh that sounds like a romping good time!

Honestly, I don't really get crushes on fictional characters in general and I feel too much of a personal attachment to my own characters to think about that way.

I mean, sure, I imagine them in hot situations, they are the produce of my imagination after all, but I don't have crushes, no. Same with most other characters that aren't my own, on Lit or not - there are a few i think of as being really hot, but again I wouldn't call them "crushes".

very legit. Interesting to think about "too personal attachment" = not wanting to think of them that way.

That makes a lot of sense. Basing them off of people, for sure.

Makes me wonder how often any of us fully make up a person out of thin air. I feel like many have some basis in reality. I base some of mine off of online content creators. Loosely or for the physical description. But it sometimes bleeds into a sense of who is my character and who is the actually person (their online persona anyways).

None of my characters are remotely based on anyone I know. They're all just traits and plot hooks and predilections and neuroses that I fleshed out. Or, more accurately, most of the time I put the ingredients in, and out popped people I didn't know but came to love and wanted to see enjoying their lives. I definitely developed crushes on several of them, and hope my readers did, too.

My erotic horror short story isn't crushworthy, but then that would be deeply fucking disturbing. My SF/F story isn't either, though I do really like the narrator in the sense that I think he's funny, and I wish him well, but I also hope never to encounter him.

I try not to idealise any of my characters. I like some of them - Avilia from The Rivals, Nicola from Fun with Fingers (and the planned follow-up), definitely Lily from Loving Lily - but I think "crushing" on them would interfere with the story.

As a reader, I hate it when an author is clearly in love with their characters (I'm looking at you, Robert Jordan!), and they start treating them as if they were actually real, not just figments of their imagination used to tell a story.

I don’t mind crushing on fictional characters. If people think I can’t separate fiction from reality easily, they’re wrong. If they don’t like what I do in my writing, they’re free not to read it. Or at least enjoy it without shaming me, if possible. Hopefully.

I will only mention one of my favorite crush characters from my stories specifically. Others should be obvious to those who read my work. The specific one I’ll point out is my original character Lisa Coleman, redhead biker, psychotherapy & martial arts expert, Southern Belle, swinging bisexual, and proud sexpot. Muse slash girlfriend of my playboy author avatar, his primary college crush and current hot wife. An obvious fantasy character, but still a positive influence on me and my ficverse, hopefully my readers too. I’ve written about her since the 90s but not always had her directly onscreen. Numerous other characters in my work have ended up reflections of her in various ways. If I meet a girl like her IRL, I’d woo her and hopefully score commitment. I did have a wife a lot like her once. A few girlfriends have come close too. I’m always on the lookout for the next real world echo. ;)

As for other people’s characters, Lisa is happy to serve any therapy client who seeks her help. Including celebrities, nonhumans, and characters like Jenna, Eden, and others mentioned in this thread. Just a fair warning- she is very consensual sex positive and tends to encourage open nymph behavior rather than the opposite. Some might have issues with that.

One thing I should add here is that I do really want Avilia and Sligh from The Rivals to be happy together, but they work best when there's some friction. So in the latest instalment (which should get them to their HEA) I'm rewriting the opening scenes to put them at odds with each other, instead of all lovey-dovey. Which is sweet, and sexy, but doesn't make for very good reading.

@EmilyMiller and I apparently have mutual crushes on several characters lol.

Jenna, from my series The Jenna Arrangement, remains near and dear to me. I crushed on her from chapter one and she's grown with each chapter.

I love Emily's Angels & Demons saga featuring the hot sexy duo of Emma and Lily. The perfect combo of naughty and nice but still naughty.
Aw! Thanks, hun 😊.

I like that creative amalgamation. And yeah, what happens if we DO crush on a character that we're "not supposed to". Haha.

I also love the idea of "I wish him well, but I also hope never to encounter him". Maybe its because we know things even the reader doesn't sometimes about our own characters. haha

But would they crush on you too? Or would it just get personal in all the wrong ways? Critical Response 2 - Lily's response to her story arc.
Oh snap! Let me think on that. I know I crush on my Charlie character and her sister Laney (for entirely different resons. Charlie is Gay though, so, no reciprocation beyond friendship. I do think Laney would like me, but, I think she's non-comital in a way that would make a tenuous, tensiony friendship with benefits at best... Now that's a Really fun subject for my mind to go down. Dastardly inquiry you've posed. BRB, gotta write! heehee

Whoa, I love that perspective!

Crushing on them would interfere. Deep. I can see that. Like, the reader is being pulled in as a possibly unwilling bystander of someone else's correspondence rather than being let to be the character in the story or something like... That's something to think about

Enthralled already! Something about a strong sex positive empowered character like her just takes the cake for me.

Add that tension!!! IRL, I'm a pretty non-conflict person, and I find that if I'm writing as myself, I tend to maintain that personality trait, but if I step into a character that can handle that, then I can see it through for the authenticity of the tale. But it can be intense to write counter to how I would handle a moment. but good tension is worth the build. Here's to Avilia and Sligh! May they get their HEA!

It's when I dream of a character, I know they've really put their hooks in.
You friggin said it!!! That's actually when I knew a huge revelation in my character. I had her base don this red head, when I wrote the initial outline over a year ago. It was cool, hot, good placement, but then all of the sudden I had a dream and Charlie was suddenly this entirely other person and I was like - Write that!!! she's real now! Go!

Glad you like Lisa. At this time I have three prominent works on Lit featuring her and she gets mentions in a few others (when a frustrated victim of sexual abuse in my ficverse needs a therapist, she’s recommended, though I’m not sure every fan of Will Trent or Law & Order Conviction would endorse her approach). The prominent works featuring her are-

Ruleskirter (college years, first onscreen appearance, she meets her future husband after beating up a would be rapist with his help) https://literotica.com/s/ruleskirter

I Want You (her first lesbian experience with a frustrated college roommate) https://literotica.com/s/i-want-you-59

Fire Woman (Loving Wives story, hookup with her husband and a former client, now a swinger, characters now in their 40s) https://literotica.com/s/fire-woman

I have more stories planned for her but need time to get them out. Continuity planning and other characters also need attention. You’re welcome to catch up on older works of mine in the meantime. Feedback appreciated.

She’s inspired by the genie from Weird Science and the Lisa AI mascot among other characters.

It's when I dream of a character, I know they've really put their hooks in.
Or when you're in the middle of a story and out of the blue something in your real life... a song on the radio... some romantic verse, or whatever and you think to yourself, 'That's exactly how I feel about my story 'Crush' or 'Crushes'.

I had two crushes in the same story, Kathy and Valerie.

Kathy was someone who I 'knew of' in college and Valerie, was a real person that I messed around with on a few nights in my dorm room. And I confess, I did fall in love with each character as the story developed.

The story is an extension of those brief encounters.
