Recently I was looking at this section of literotica and want to contribute to it somehow.
Do any others out there want to share in this idea and create something special?
Please reply if interested and we can discuss ideas.

Lit generally does a chain story a year. I know Laurel wants to do one this year, but she's also kinda concerned about COPA shutting it down in the middle. Anyway.

Before we can start the chain story, we've got to have some ideas. I'm fresh out.

Childrens Online Protection Act. The Supreme Court is currently deciding if it's Constitutional or not. They have to make a decision by close of business in the beginning of July. If they give it a green light, anything adult content will have to go behind an AVS system or require a credit card for access. AVSs do not allow covered sites to advertise. Lit pays for it's bandwidth and servers and everything with advertising.

So it's a problem?

So will literotica stay free for life or will this decision change it into AVS/Credit card crap?
I HATE AVS with a capitol H as it's annoying and has ruined more than enough free sites.
As for credit cards-I don't use a credit card and I bet many other members don't either.
Is this the end for literotica?

you always get some twat who throws a spanner in the works.
We were all children once weren't.

Ignorants is the reall danger. Neat they will say children shouldn't read so they don't learn and can't therefore be corrupted.

I look at this way if you don't like it don't read it. But give others the freedom to

COPA - just another step in turning the USA into Barney world. Just another chip out of our freedoms in the name of "The Children."

Question is, do we sit around and bitch about it or do we do something about it? And what would we do? To defend a site like Literotica is to be labeled a pervert. Not many people have the intestinal fortitude for that. They're afraid to be labeled as such: perverts, sickos, haters of children, etc.

I'm so sick of having my freedoms eroded because some unfit parent won't take the time to supervise their own children.

"It Takes a Village" my ass. It takes a parent, or a family - not a bunch of career politicians with nothing else to do but seek headlines.

End of story.

Yeah Yeah....

But none of the above answers my questions does it?

I love going to literotica reading storys and indulging into fantasies and so on.
WILL THE SITE REMAIN FREE???

Somebody answer the damn question please.

Answers aren't easy

As KM answered several posts ago, COPA is taking their claim to the Supreme Court. If the case is heard and has merit, then the Supreme Court will hand down a decision.

That decision will be the factor that will change Literotica or not. So, you see, no one can answer your question.

I don't know the status of the case, but from what KM says (And I'm certain she's up to date), then we will all have to enjoy it while we can until July.

COPA has an agenda and it's not very well thought out. Unfortunately, it is well funded. With any luck, the case will not be well-written and therefore, not heard by the Supreme Court.

My opinion...Literotica is a business and a corporeal body in legal terms, therefore, the constitution protects all legal bodies (you, me and other legally defined bodies) from someone getting in the way of "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness." It's very likely that a business cannot be forced to disallow advertising, if it is its soul means of making money. The Supreme Court cannot define laws which bankrupt people.

The only legal channel COPA has for forcing the issue is to come up with a convincing argument that forcing businesses such at Literotica to comply with AVS or become "private" businesses (like a club you have to join with a credit card) and forgo all advertising would be to convince the Supreme Court that it would be for the "better good."

This is very much like the arguments used against tobacco companies in the state court systems currently.

The good news? The "better good" argument has been used in numerous cases against pornography and lost many times over, including in the Supreme Court. To follow such an argument, COPA would have to convince the court they have new evidence, never before submitted.

This is highly unlikely despite the current conservative strain of politics.

wow

I am not being my usual sarcastic self when I say I am impressed Judo and appreciate the information.

second that!

I was expecting a series of "huh?" "what's going on?" "what'll we do?" Instead, I learned something. Thank you for clearing that up AND giving us a bright ray of hope, Judo.

Here's to hoping that all of us devout Litties can keep our day job!

chyoo.com

Good job Judo, in pointing out the realities of the situation.

Katie, this may not answer your question, but in the meantime try checking out www.chyoo.com - it's a chain-writing satellite site of Literotica, and I've had a bit of fun over there.

Goodness!

Thanks, everybody. I...I don't know what to say. That was very nice to hear.
