Is this a metaphorical punch in the mouth or do you actually advocate criminal assault on someone because you disagree with them, or they irritate you in some way? Do you sneak up on them, or is there some kind of warning?

I don't see any reason to celebrate someone who would do this, and there certainly not reasoning with them.

A punch in the mouth ought to reserved for purely defensive reasons. What do you do when they punch back? This would be in real life, not metaphorically speaking.
