Caviar and BBQ ~ Worlds Collide (Close)

"Errrr, come with you?"

He gulped, searching for the right words.

"I dunno, I might.... emmm, I can.... can't."

He was infuriating himself with his hesitation.

"Oh what the hell! I'll go with you, it would be an honour."

Then he stoppered his mouth in horror at what he'd just said. Had he really agreed to go?

Thats wonderful... you do own a suit or two? Something in between a dress uniform and a tux? If not I could arrange for one to be custom fitted for you if.you like?

She smiled to him her eyes almost seemed to dance as they talked about the event. She seemed more happy to be going with him agreeing to be at her side. I will be having to shop for a dress tomorrow so any idea of some shops around here I should look into?

"A suit? I don't really go in for suits, at all."

Hell, I don't even have a tux. One dress uniform, that's about the extent of my smart clothing since I joined the force. I always hated suits.

"Errrr, dress shops? I..."

He scoured his memory, and came up with nothing.

"I can't really help you with that, but I can put you in touch with someone who can if that's any help?"

Oh... she bit her lip... I see... I would guess that your dress uniform would work if you CO. would allow you to wear it for something like this.

I would greatly appreciate that... I want to find a place without dealing with someone in the office because they would want to drive me around and all of that an I don't need all the fuss.

"Well this is Sue's number."

He jotted down the number on a napkin.

"She's my partner, just give her a ring and she'll take you out in the town, she's pretty in touch with fashion."

Maybe you should go with us when we do or I could ask her to help you find a suit too?

She smiled to him kissing his cheek in thanks for the number and put it away in her purse.

He coughed nervously.

"Er, suit?"

He hadn't worn a suit in years, the closes he had was his uniform.

"I don't really do suits, but I suppose I could ask Sue."

You... you don't have to do this.

She did not want him to be so uncomfortable that he would not have fun. It was an interesting change of pace. He had no clue who she was and was not tripping over himself to want to be seen with her. It was refreshing and in a way entertaining as she laughed a little as she continued...

I mean if you really think getting a suit will kill you or bring about the end of he world or something.

She pat his cheek softly and playfully as she smiled watching his expression and eyes.

He shook his head.

"No, I can do it. I'm not going to let a suit get the better of me. Is it... black tie?"

He laughed.

"I must sound like an idiot, sorry, I just don't really do this kind of thing often."

His cheek tingled where she'd patted it and he smiled a little.

"What kind of a guy would I be if I didn't make the effort? So when is this party?"

The party is at the convention hall in the office complex and yes black tie. Here is the address.

She slipped him her card with the address on it and smiled watching his eyes. It was strangely comforting that he would be there with her. She caught the look from the guy behind the counter at Oliver and she could not help but smile. He seemed quite humored by Oliver's stumbling and fearful commitment to the event.

"I'll be there. I promise. I gotta move out of my comfort zone some time don't I."

He caught Alessia's glance over his shoulder, and turned to see the cook suddenly become very busy at the BBQ. He smiled, "yeah, I've not really had a lot of practise talking to women the last few years, sorry."

"They all know it, never give up ribbing me about it."

He laughed, "you must have to be better at this for these parties I guess?"

Well now looks like they cant rib you about it any more.

She smiled to him and nodded.

Basically we stand around talk have a nice meal wines and dance if you like.

She bit her lower lips slightly pondering turning these ritzy party types on their ear by having BBQ Bobs cater an event especially if her mother or father show up. Just to get her own American way into all of this.

"Yeah, yeah I can do that... I think."

He laughed at himself now, he was more relaxed in her presence than he had been with anyone for a long time. Even his friends hadn't seen him like this since...

He let the thought trail away. Then snapped himself back into the conversation, hoping she hadn't noticed. They'd pretty much finished their food.

"Do you want to go somewhere, there's a beautiful spot just around the headland, I'd like to show you it."

Sure... I'd like that.

She smiled watching him looking into his eyes.

Should we take your car or mine?

"Well", he considered the two cars they'd arrived in and the kind of city they were in.

"Maybe the best bet would be your car, mine is less tempting a target."

He almost kicked himself.

"Sorry, it's hard to turn it off."

He tapped his head, his cop instincts seemed to take over much of his life these days.

So you want us to take my car because its more of a tempting target for what?

She laughed as it sounded like he wanted something to happen to possibly get to play hero again. Or perhaps less of a target lingering here... she was trying to get used to translating meanings here in America in comparison to everywhere else she has lived.

Lets go...

"Well if we leave yours alone then someone is more likely to try and steal it."

He reddened a little, "I doubt anyone's going to bother with my piece of crap."

Okay we can take my car. Lets go.

Standing she smiled to him. He was so charming when he was stumbling over his words and thoughts.

So which way do we need to go?

She asked as she got to the door.

"Left and then just follow the coast road."

They were driving for only a few minutes before he leaned forward.

"Here, turn off here."

It was just a dirt road but as the car follows it it opens up into a small inlet, empty, with untouched white sand and a small bay, the water glassy and still, moonlight reflecting off the water.

Seeing the beautiful view before her and smiled.

Its beautiful...

She quickly pulled to a stop and glanced over to him unsure if they were just going to sit there and enjoy the view or go wandering... she hoped to go wandering it was so peaceful and beautiful here. She reached for the door handle but could not tear her eyes from the beautiful setting before her.

That would be nice... unless you were just wanting to sit here. Either way is fine with me.

She looked over and smiled softly to him. The area was beautiful and she was with a handsome and kind man who she enjoyed being around more and more.

"It'll be nicer out of the car."

He got out and walked round to the other side, opening the door and holding out a hand to help.

Taking his hand she stepped from the car and smiled closing the door she set the alarm and turned smiling to him.

Mind holding onto the car keys for me?

Taking a deep breath she glanced around with a smile.

It really is beautiful here.

"Sure."

He pocketed the keys, feeling his heart skip as her fingers brushed his and her smile lit up her face. He sat back against the hood of the car.

"It really is, I always loved coming here, but I haven't been in a while."

He paused and looked at her.

"So how long are you in America?"
