Caviar and BBQ ~ Worlds Collide (Close)

She drifted off to sleep or at least she tried to. She was scared that she had scared him off wanting him to go with her to various functions and parties... he acted to scared of just being in the house and she blindly asked him to go with her to some event or function some time.

She found herself staring at her cell phone there by the bed with a soft sigh. Her mind slipping back to feeling his arms wrapping around her as he returned her thank you kiss. smiling softly she let that memory carry her off to sleep.

Eventually he found himself awake, the light blazing in through the open blinds. He blinked in the harsh sunlight and looked down, frowning. The phone was on the sheet in front of him. He couldn't remember if he'd actually put it there or not the night before, or if he'd simply fallen asleep holding it.

He groaned aloud. Then dropped it onto the side table as he got up and pulled on some clothes. His breakfast was less of the hurried affair that it normally was as he made himself a full fry up. He wasn't sure why but he felt like celebrating. It couldn't be Alessia? No, it was just that narrow scrape yesterday, he was just celbrating survival, that was it.

He was in the station an hour later. Not out in the car, like he preferred, but behind the desk, doing paperwork. That was the problem with getting away from the scene quick, he just had to fill in all the paperwork afterwards instead.

He kept toying with the business card in his pocket, it was slowing him down, but he couldn't concentrate properly. He'd finished the paper work by 12, right on time for his lunchbreak and somehow he couldn't resist dialling the number.

Good afternoon Da Veaga Design How may I direct your call?

The upbeat young mans voice rattled through the phone. Alessia had her personal phone forwarded to the office during business hours just in case her mother called. Which meant that it went through the main system to be forwarded to her again in her office.

The voice that answered was not Alessia's, he stood with the phone by his ear for a moment, then hung up. He wasn't at home in her world, he certainly wasn't comfortable in the world of PA's and ties.

He stared at the phone for a moment in anger at his own awkardness. He'd ring her at the end of the week, she said she wouldn't be in the office then. Maybe then he'd have a better chance.

She had no idea he had tried to call. Her assistant/Secretary dismissed it as a wrong number and went on with the day. She called it a day early Thursday and headed for home... she thought about going by the BBQ place but she was not sure if she should or not. She did not want to make him uncomfortable but she did not want to give up one of the only true and genuine people she had met in this town.

She sat at the light just a couple doors away from BBQ Bobs and sighed staring at the sign and the building itself till a horn behind her revealed that traffic was again moving and with a sigh she headed home.

He couldn't concentrate behind the counter, he'd already burnt three meals and had to start them again. He kept glancing at his phone, as though he was expecting it to ring. That and constantly checking the entrance to see if she was coming in. But there was no sign of her. Eventually Bob came over.

"Look Oliver, you shouldn't be here really, I mean I know you love it here but you're clearly distracted, you need to stop working and relax ok, I've called in Greg and he should be here in ten minutes alright."

Even his reply was distracted.

"Yeah, thanks."

No sooner was he out than he'd made his decision, it was no good being able to make snap decisions on the street and then be unable to pick up the phone. He dialled her number, holding his breath as he heard it ring.

She had just gotten into the driveway when her phone rang. She did not recognize the number as she answered it curious who it could be but hoped it was Oliver.

Hello?

She stood there by the car as she spoke keys in her hand waiting to see who answered her. Part of her really wanting to go back to the BBQ place and mentally cursing her fear of him not wanting to see her because of their so very different worlds.

"Hello."

He froze, unable to speak, then suddenly the catch in his throat vanished and the words flowed out.

"Hey, Alessia?"

It was a question but he'd recognised the voice and suddenly he just didn't care anymore.

"I finished early, I was wondering if you wanted to get a drink, maybe a meal, seeing as how you never really managed to finish yours yesterday?"

That would be wonderful Oliver. I just got home from the office but where would you want to meet... or would you want to come here first?

She smiled as she spoke and listened to him.

"I'm at Bob's now if you want to grab a bite to eat and then there's a little bar on the beach front, pretty near to your house actually."

He paused, holding his breath to see what her reply would be.

Mind if I take a moment to get out of these office clothes and meet you there at Bobs? I was really not looking forward to cooking tonight...

She was very happy at the prospect of spending time with him. She wanted to ask him to attend an office party with her over the weekend. She hoped he would agree to it but was scared he would say no. Even with that fear over dinner or drinks she would have to try and ask.

"Yeah sure, I'll see you in a bit."

He hung up, knowing that if he'd waited even a second he wouldn't have been able to. He turned back into the BBQ joint, "I'll have a bud"

She got changed fairly quickly and a quick shower she was far too used to being able to get changed into anything in a hurry. Within 30 minutes she was on her way to BBQ Bobs in a relaxed jeans and blouse and her hair clipped back. Arriving she quickly made sure she had not missed anything and then slipping from the car and headed towards the door.

Walking in she looked around seeing him sitting and walked over.

I wondered when I would see you again?

He perked up noticeably when he heard her voice. He spun round on the stool, beaming.

"Hey, I was asking myself the same question. I thought since we didn't meet in the best of circumstances I could treat you to a meal here?"

He stood up and pulled out another stool for her.

"You get the best experience up here, at the bar, you want a drink?"

He didn't know why he was being so talkative, maybe it was relief that she'd actually turned up. Maybe he was just in a good mood. Though he knew which one he'd put money on.

Iced tea... One of the people in the office brought some today. I would love to actually truly be able to eat here but nothing too spicy

She smiled at how happy he seemed to be and enjoyed listening to him talk. Maybe it would be easier than she thought to ask him about attending the office party with her... or maybe he was just too nervous and all the talking was a defense... No he seemed happy not nervous...

"Yeah sure, just let me get something for you."

He waited a moment, then caught the eye of Greg behind the bar, he flipped some meat onto a plate, tossing it onto the bar for one of the other customers. He came over, a grin on his face.

"What can I get ya?"

"Hey Greg, I'll have my usual and for the lady here, we'll get, oh I dunno, a mild Kansas."

She smiled nodding to Greg that Olivers idea sounded good.

Beef for the meat... One of the people that works with me suggested burnt end brisket... lots of mild sauce and some iced tea?

She was getting a little nervous not wanting to mess up what they suggested and her accent was beginning to thicken as she spoke.

"That sounds like a good idea? You been reading up on this stuff?"

He laughed and took a sip of his beer, he was nervous, he talked when he was nervous, rambled in fact.

"Mind you I've always been one for the spicy foods, a bit of an adrenaline junky I guess. How was work?" Though you probably don't want to talk about that."

Asking around with locals from the office. Work was fine I have an event coming up they expect me to attend. A party of sorts. So at least this weekend I can do some shopping.

She smiled watching Greg move to cook before looking over to Oliver as they talked.

Oh god, a party! How do I look compared to the smooth sophisticated guy there, I'm probably like a cavemen compared to the guys she's used to. Why is she even here?

His mind rushed through this in a moment then moved on.

Does she want me to go with her? In a suit, I can't do that.

"An event, so what is it, some sort of fundraiser or something?"

Why am I keeping this in her mind?

Primarily a meet and greet for our staff and some new congratulations companies.

She shrugged.

Its something we from time to time on this side of the pond apparently.

Occasionally an special holidays. They make this soundlime its a monthly thing. I almost wonder if this is some sort of "got to impress the bosses daughter" kind of thing.

She laughed and nodded with a smile as their food arrived.

"Cheers Greg."

He thanked Greg with a smile and turned back to Alessia.

"Still I guess everyone wants to impress their boss at work, it's kinda the done thing you know. Anyway, I don't see why people wouldn't want to impress someone like you."

Oh my god what am I saying?

Moment of truth she thought to herself as she spoke.

I... I was wondering... if you might like to go?

She very faintly bit at her lip within a hopeful smile.

I don't really know anyone else in town and I can't really ask any of the employees.
