Cat question

sometimes my cat sort of humps my feet... not really humps - i'm never sure if for her it's sexual or some sort of death throttle. mostly it involves curling her body around my foot/ankle/leg and than kicking it with her back feet while trying to bite me. it's a little hump like... and a little death throttle - and damned annoying.

maybe if i get her a companion, she'll stop doing that to me.

also, one time, i had a guy over and we were making out on the couch like we were in high school except that he took off my bra with serious finesse - and she came up and licked his bare foot.

cats can be serious mood killers.

*LOL* She's playing with you..... She's treating your foot like prey..
Cats will grab the prey, bite it's neck, then eviscerate it with the back claws..

Reach down and woolly her a bit when she does it.
Ummm I might also suggest you go by the pet store and get her some of the "furry" toys.. Made out of rabbit fur.

you have to be kidding me... she's got a basket full of such toys. and a cat condo tree thing. she's a spoiled rotten animal. i wake up EVERY morning with at least one of her fuzzy little stuffed toys in my bed. what i hate is when she drags the feather boa that's on the end of a plastic rod into my bed. there is nothing as uncomfortable as rolling onto that and getting jabbed in the ribs.

I know it really bugs people when you say this... But a human really isn't enough of a companion for a young cat... Which is why they get in most of their trouble when they are young..
*shrug*
She'll calm down in a bit...Usually.
*grin*
But dragging stuff into the bed? I know cats that are 3 or 4 years old that still do that.

Those are presents.

If I give one a toss, there are days it comes back to me --- fetch!

yah maybe it's time to bite the bullet and get cat number two. just so long as it isn't three, a girl should get married before she allows that to happen. premarital sex? yes please. buying a house as a hot single young woman? definitely! getting three cats while a hot single woman? complete dating disaster. it's bad enough the shower curtain buying, and the lint rollers stashed everywhere - but three cats? no way.

oh and i'm about to make my av a photo of her since i'm getting active here again maybe. so you all can admire her cuteness

2 is good... Hmmm Curtains eh?

If I can suggest something... Make her a scratching post... Use a piece of limb, about 5 or 6 inches diameter... Trick is... cut the ends and fasten it to wood...You want it to be a 45 degree angle... Use something with a smooth bark.. Oh and flip the curtain over the rod when it's not in use..
Commercial scratching posts suck...they are mainly designed to appeal to consumers... Not Cats

oh she has a giant cat condo with several scratching posts integrated and she makes use of them pretty vigorously... the problem isn't curtains... it's the plastic shower curtain liner. she loves i think the feel of the plastic under her paws. it's some weird cat fetish. she loves all plastic. she goes INSANE when i bring groceries home. and i would flip it over the rod when not in use but it causes mold issues to do so.

if she were human and a bdsmer - she'd have a thing for syran wrap and latex. figures i'd get the pervy cat.

Oh well.... My friends cat eats cardboard boxes... They are about as individual, and as peculiar, as humans.

I would love a hug right now.

The littlest calico of Mama's new litter died yesterday. We had named her Callie. She had green eyes like her mom.

I made her a box with a soft comfy towel inside with a few of my precious toys to keep her company in heaven. I covered it with foil so that it would be shiny and beautiful and wrapped it in my hair ribbons, red and blue, and a gold metallic knit scarf. I took a picture of it so that I could remember her and her day.

I cried a lot today.

I have been there way too many times in my life but Im an animal lover so I imagine I will a bunch more times before its my turn.

Whenever I start thinking and crying I just think of this place...

Rainbow Bridge

Be very careful with the palstic bags. I have almost lost my tee twice due to blockage she eats plastic...among other questionable materials. She even once ate the ears offa teak cat trinket box I used to keep on my cocktail table.

Her surgeries were costly but of courst worth it and I had only myself to blame for leaving such things out for her to get at. Oh and btw she eats my cloths as well so I have learned to be a neater me. Something my Domley friend likes very much.

I am totally amused and partly worried by this thread.

I got a calico almost two years ago after mentioning how cool their genetics were to my mom. Guess what I got for my birthday? a fiery and fiesty creature.

but mostly she's well behaved - except for a particular fetish for plastic. she's destroyed several shower curtain liners. and by several, i mean that i buy a new liner about once a month. also, she LOVES to crawl into those plastic bags that they put your groceries in... sometimes she manages to get inside one before i notice when i'm putting things away. i'll laugh at her than pick up the bag and carry her around in it. she loves it. she's such a freak. so i have to be careful to not leave bags lying about.

but she's still young and I'm considering getting a second kitten... especially as I'm i n the process of closing on a 1600 square foot townhome and the space is more than adequate for two little monsters. but i worry about finding a good companion for my kitty.

yeah... and I'm really unsure about moving her into a new place and than almost immediately introducing another cat. maybe it's better not to wait. maybe it's better to wait.

oh - and wd, i did successfully train my cat to do one thing and only one thing. she used to wake me every morning so she could be fed. but by stead fast ignoring her and refusing to feed her til after showering - she learned that waking me didn't get her what she wanted. so instead she purrs against my back or stomach and settles for a smidge of cuddling. greedy little mistress.

You mention here about moving her into a new place. By that I am assuming that you are moving? If so do that first. I've had several experiences of 'moving' cats. To cats smell is the most important thing. Ever wondered why when you get a new piece of furniture in the house your cat will eye it suspiciously at first, eventually rubbing the side of their face all around it? Cats have glands in the side of their face that secrete some kind of cat scent. When they do this they are marking the item as 'owned'. So in the morning when you get up and your cat purrs around you legs part of that ritual is about marking you as theirs.

When you move it is best to get the house as sorted as possible before bringing the cat into it. They will wander around and sniff everything and 'marking' things again before finally deciding that they belong there. As I say I have moved several times very successfully with no problems of cats disappearing (I have two cats at the moment).

So I would suggest that you move first and let your current cat settle then get a second cat – I would strongly suggest female if your existing cat is female. There may well be some 'back chat' from them but sooner or later they will sort themselves out, one will become dominant and the other submissive (I wonder why we all like cats so much.... umm  ). They are good company for each other, cats are not normally solitary creatures and certainly in the wild they stay together as packs.

Hope this helps some.

Yes, I would strongly recommend getting 2 cats. There are a few cats that are better off solitary but even though things aren't perfect I know she has increased the quality of his life.

awesome... that sounds like good sense. i know she likes scent... she often sniffs me. and she is constantly crawling into my dirty clothes to sleep. i was thinking that when i moved, i'd put a dirty tshirt in every room til she got settled down. but she's an indoor cat so i'm not too worried about her running away. with apartment living, her being indoors made sense. kids are running around unsuprivsed, they through pine cones at the windows to scare her so i know they'd mess with her. and i am currently really close to the interstate - so she's never been outside as she won't tolerate a collar and leash.

oh and sorry for uh... dominating... this thread

but it so completely spoke to one of the issues I'm facing right now

As for the shower plastic, it sometimes doesn't take long for little habits like that to run their course. A little deviation is sometimes all it takes to get them onto another path.

I have one cat that likes to get into my bathroom cabinets and sleep on the clean towels. The only problem with that is my clean towels end up with cat hair on them.

Cats are very smart and he found a way to get into the lower cabinet, then move from that one to the next one up and then to the next until he was in the one he wanted.

I decided to duct tape the cabinet doors closed, so he couldn't get in. It didn't take more than a week for him to lose interest and find another spot to roost. I still have to look around to be sure he's not in the bathroom, when I put the clean towels away. I don't want to rekindle his memory.

Because sometimes it doesn't take long to ween a cat from a habit, if you have to put the plastic up for a while, it might not be for very long. Just long enough for your cat to lose interest.

As another option, maybe get one she's already ripped up and cut a section out for a toy. Put it up like a scratching post. Keep the rest of the torn plastic to put on the post, once what's on there is torn to shreds. In the course of time, put less on, until you have none at all on, or just enough for the scent she's after.

One of these might change the habit and save your shower plastic.

My dryer is 5' off the floor and my girl liked sleeping in there for a while. I've noticed they have their "spots" but they change every few weeks. A survival thing I guess.

Another little spat today. She runs away and he takes two leaps after her and then gives up. I think he is just having fun.

You won't really need to do that, as long as you don't buy tonnes of new furniture that she doesn't know. Although I know my two love nothing more than and old jumper of mine to sleep on.

DVS - the 'problem' with the clean towels is just that - they are clean and don't smell right to your cat. Put a pile of clean washing on the bed and that's where the cat will choose to sleep - same reason. They simply have to get things smelling like they belong - LOL. I just wish they understood about cat hair ! Ah well.....

My Bonnie loves plastic bags too and will steal them from me as I'm unpacking the shopping. I tie them tightly in knots and let her have one now and again, although if a cat is eating plastic it's not such a good idea.

Cats are just so entertaining.

yah she doesn't eat plastic uckily but she loves the feel of it on her body. and her paws. sometimes, when she manages to crawl into the bags, i'll pick the bag up and carry her around my apartment while laughing my face off at her.

she's also twice as likely to curl up in bed with me if i'm naked than if i'm wearing pjs. she's pervy.

LOL - Bonnie does that too. She crawles under the duvet and stretches out until her cold paddy paws are touching me.

Clyde just seems to be a very 'normal' cat. She doesn't do anything mad like Bonnie.

One day B came in from playing and her legs and stomach were were even though it hadn't rained or anything. I went outside and my neighbour told me that she had seen Bonnie wading through their kiddies paddling pool. She just loves water - I have to make sure the bathroom door is shut when I'm taking a shower otherwise she's in the end of the bath with me - madness !
