One of the coolest things about cats is that contray to what most people and media would make you believe they are social animals AND they keep testing Dominant positions within that social group.
Most groups of animals only test when the leader gets weakened in some way but not cats. They are always at it.
Also cats, can be all loving and purry one minute then flip the script into play or violence the next. It's all mixed for them as it is for some of us.
Cats generally demand attention and quality time. They tend to do so with far more dignity and comportment than dogs.

I think one of the cruelest things a cat owner who travels a lot can do is to own a lone cat without giving it a companion... I would own a single dog, never a single cat.
