Cartoons

i kinda hate that two of the shows i remember liking when i was very little were bill cosby projects. fat albert and the electric company.

though i only liked the electric company because spiderman, yo. also, i thought it was part of sesame street until i was in my late twenties.

honestly, i'm surprised i remember watching it at all.

now i'm watching neon genesis evangelion because i just never have before. it's good, but very uncomfortable. i am far too old for all the awkward teenage sexuality. japan is so freaking weird.

also, what's with the fucking penguin? that tiny apartment must reek with the teenagers and the penguin skank all mixing together.

Electric Company also had a whole lot of animated music videos of Tom Lehrer songs, and those were awesome. And Morgan Freeman.

even though i just mentioned watching two anime shows i gotta say i've never understood the portion of the anime fandom that just watches any old thing just because it's anime. i like the stuff i've liked, but i learned a long time ago that anime is still subject to sturgeon's law.

also, if you're over the age of 12 and you still watch pokemon i really don't want to talk to you.

The show i absolutely abhor is One Piece. Its so screamy and loud. Oh, and i hate Naruto. Its not as bad as One Piece, but its still not my taste. She has found a few that i dont mind, One Punch Man and Attack on Titan. One Punch probably more than Titan, but i can get into both. My oldest (22) watches some pretty intense shows, but since shes out on her own, we dont watch together.

be wary about attack on titan. i wasn't being playful when i called it fascist. it is well made, however.

Be sure to watch the End of Evangelion movie. They ran out of money making the series, so the end is a chaotic mess. The movie wraps it up more comprehensibly.

However, if you’re already freaked out by the awkward teenaged sexuality … the beginning of the movie is off the charts  in that regard, so be prepared … .

Current animation has some of the best writers in television and film, and the best actors as voice talent. It is rapidly shaping the future of both streaming and network content.

That episode of BoJack Hor -

...sorry; I forgot - this is the GB. I like the ones with the coyote & the road runner. :rose:
True. Lots of great stuff being produced.
Animaniacs. Although I haven't seen the reboot.
I love Animaniacs. I only watched the first episode of the reboot. As I understand it, NONE of the writers from original series are involved. I love Maurice LaMerche, Rob Paulson and Tress MacNeille, but the brilliance is in the scripts.
I’ve heard good things about Tuca & Bertie. It got cancelled, right? But then they decided to renew it after all. I should check it out.

I watched the new FLCL, but it didn’t have the same magic for me. The original was so crazily ambitious and experimental. The manga-style episode. The bit where they lapsed into Southpark-style animation for a bit. The new one didn’t feel like it was taking the same risks.

But … Home Movies! Yes! H. Jon Benjamin is so great in everything. My husband still refers to him as Coach McGuirk whenever he hears his voice. And if you like Home Movies, do you like Metalocalypse? It’s so hard to believe Brendon Small is also Nathan Explosion.

All the voice actors in Bob’s Burgers are amazing. Kristin Schaal … oh my god!

I often think of her when I’m on Lit, because there’s a scene in Toy Story 3 where Woody catches her (as Trixie the dinosaur) privately chatting with another dinosaur toy on the computer, and Schaal’s response is so deliciously laden with guilt.

I’m scared to watch Big Mouth because of the cringe factor. I have this horrible feeling it might too closely replicate my own experiences in middle school …. .
MCGURK!!! Soooo funny. Archer and Bob's Burgers are great too. Though Linda Belcher drives me nuts...

i have now watched that. i am not sure which ending i liked better, but i could've done without the scene in the hospital.

also, the strangling is not something i understand.

still, the series and that movie were surprisingly good. eventually i might try watching more, but i need to give it a break now or i'll start dreaming that shit.
