My A/C is blowing outside temp air. I need the coolant replaced, right? How much does this cost, approximately?

The coolant is about $70 per lb and most cars take about 2 1/2 lbs. Your local oil change place should be able to give you a free estimate.

That depends on how old your ar is and if the A/C uses the old freon or the new freon.

If your system is old enough to require conversion to the new refrigerant, it's going to get real spendy, real fast.

My car's a 1998 Chevy Cavalier, and I'm pretty sure it has the new freon. Am I still looking at the $70/lb coolant?

Your cake is right here, Blushing Rose. Though the frosting's really the interesting part. ;)

That sounds a bit high, but given regional differences on taxes, coolant recovery requirements, and a host of other factors, that could be close to the total cost.

Getting your A/C serviced now will probably be ceaper than it will be if you wait a couple of months. (Between Thanksgiving and Christmas is about the best time to have it serviced, BTW -- A/C specialists are desperate for work then. :))

Check your settings. 2 to 1 you don't have it set up right. Very seldom a/c goes out really fast

Mischka It could be a lot of things. Like blown fuse,
Clutch burt up, compressor bad, low or out of freon
bad expansion valve, lose wires, the doors in the air
box are not working, bad relay, I could go on and on
But you car being a 1998 Chevy Cavalier will have R34A freon
In it. It sells for about $6 to $8 for 14 oz. If it is low or out of
freon. The will have to fix the leak before they will charge up your
ac. Your car should hold about 2.5 to 3 lbs. I may be off a little.
My friend has a 94 cavalier and I put about 2.5 lbs. In it after we
Replaced a hose. His had R12 in it. R12 when you can fined it
Sell for about $18 to $35 for 14oz. So we put freezes 12 in it. It
Sells for $12.75 for 14oz. This is a direct replacement for R12
I hope this has helped if not e-mail me.:rose:

Absolutley correct. A four year old car should not be having a coant problem unless a hose was damaged in some way and started leaking. More then likely I would say it is the clutch or a fried fuse/relay.

And the winner is...drumroll please...Nogard! I forgot to push the little A/C button to the "on" setting. Today was the first day I've needed A/C in months. Yeah, that would have been real embarassing at the repair shop.

And hi there, studlyhungwell. 'Fraid that's not me in my avatar. That's Stockard Channing. She's about thirty years my senior, but we're both brunettes, if that's any consolation.
