California’s “bullet train” runs off the rails.

People are not leaving CA because of the climate. The weather is fantastic. Yes, there are droughts and wildfires, but that’s not why people leave. They’re leaving because of ridiculous marginal tax rates, increasingly overcrowded metro areas, crime, filthy homeless encampments scattered throughout cities, crappy schools, high cost of living (housing, gas, power, water, services and entertainment) terrible roads and highways, all the product of decades for poor governance.
Memo to Governor Newsom:

Please stop "gouging" your constituents.

Memo to the California Legislature:

Please stop "gouging" your constituents.

Memo to the Red Greens:

You do not clean up the environment by turning the state into a third world hell-hole run by an exclusive elite few.

And who is it that's leaving? Oh, there are a few elites that took the Red Pill, but for the most part it's the middle class. And if you melon-scoop out the middle class you're left with a de facto feudal system.

I read this morning that a lot of exodus is the young and educated. Can't remember exactly where, I've done a lot of cyber surfing this morning.

6th largest economy in the entire fucking world says what. The middle-class can certainly afford to live here. Anything else I can learn ya, Ishtard?

I haven’t seen data on who is leaving but my guess is you’re right. Pretty sure the masses that rely on government assistance aren’t leaving in droves. And even though the number of rich people leaving is small, the government relies heavily on them for funding. About one half of the top one percent provide nearly half the tax revenue. And with markets tanking, all that tax revenue they were collecting from the rich during the good times is coming to an end. All that happy talk about the state surplus wont last much longer.

Darling, you accused me first of being against this project because I didn't like the people involved and your inability to admit that this was, is, and will continue to be a political boondoggle really suggest and non-centrist bias. I didn't call you anything.
It’s true, when I see something that would benefit people I care about I leave the center. I was excited for the possibilities. I will never stop wanting a train between the CV and Bay Area.

But I also admire the ability to say things like, “I’m pro-life but also believe Black Lives Matter.” Where do you put those people? I like that far better than anyone who just walks party lines.

Temporarily. Climate change is one item on a long list of reasons why California is losing population and businesses. Long commutes anywhere will decrease as energy gets scarce.
Is it?
I see people leave because it’s an infrastructure problem. Not people who even remotely believe climate change exists. Instead, they’re tired of water being shut off and being told to not run their AC in triple digit heat.

It’s a government mismanagement issue, not “climate change.”

Water problems are another Californian self-inflicted wound by a one-party state more beholden to the (Red) Green movement than they are to common sense and resource management.

In the same vein, the (Red) Greens have made every effort to prevent proper forest management and increase the intensity, duration and frequency of fires and instead of looking in the mirror, like a parrot (and this covers the water and energy shortages too) their continual lament is (and nefarious enemy of all things California) GlowBall Warning! GlowBall Warning! GlowBall Warning and the evil corporations and Republicans who put profits before people; those Nazis are murderers! Pollution == profits! Squawk! Squawk!
I’m here to point out that it is a one-party state recently, but the people getting hurt by policies are not the ones who are part of that party.

Instead, they’ve been there for generations, happy in their small rural communities but then get overwhelmed by migration from other areas and changing political tides. They stay because it’s the only home they ever knew. You could show compassion for those watching their way of life slip away instead of lumping them with the idealists you dislike.
