I don't know enough about Cromwell to argue what motivated his actions in Ireland. It might be hard for me to recognise any redeeming qualities in a man who oversaw a war that killed 40% of the indigenous population (if you include war related disease and famine) but I'm willing to be informed.

He conducted what can only charitably be described as a scorched earth campaign. Drogheda and Wexford appear to have been flat-out murder and slaughter, though Antonia Fraser in her biography of Cromwell provides some mitigating considerations in respect of the Drogheda bloodbath.

There’s nothing new here it’s been going on for generations and is a purely economic phenomenon.

Immigrants to the UK tend to congregate in parts of North, East and South East London which swells those communities. Aspiring poor Londoners tend to move out, to the burbs, by a Barbour coat and tell themselves they’ve made it.
Go to Kent, Cambridgeshire etc and you’ll find all the old Londoners in droves. The reason they left was for a better life and that’s it.

I have always thught of Cromwell as being one of the most evil people in History, comparable to Hitler and Stalin. Not just for the atrocities in Ireland, but for all the other evil deeds, in which he claimed to be doing God's will. Those who make that claim are the worst of all.

At the same time, the massacres of Catholics did not happen in a vacuum. Catholics were murdering Protestants in droves before Cromwell came along, and some of the English monarchs were almost as bad.

40% - total bollocks . No more than 100,000 died directly or indirectly. Cromwell virtually created Ireland by giving them a common enemy. Before that they were tribal peasants killing each other. After he had shown 'em what a real army could do to rebellious scum, they kept the peace for 200 years.

Incidentally the proportion of the English population which died in the civil war was greater than the proportionate losses caused by Cromwell's suppression of the Irish.
