There have been several threads bemoaning W's election and we'll have to live with that for the next 4 years.

In the mean time, what will you do when important issues (legislation, court nominations) come up and you disagree strongly?

Are you gonna come here to bitch, moan and whine?

Or are you gonna get involved: write your representatives and get your friends to do likewise?

We may not be pleased with the outcome of the election, but the worst thing we can do is capitulate.

So Litizens, whatcha gonna do?

HAHAHAHA, hope. Sorry, I've been behind the scenes of political action groups. Surrender is less dirty and far less likely to make me slit my wrists in frustration.

My father called up our congressman.

Tried Trent Lott and couldn't get ahold of him, kept getting a run-around. So he called the other guy (can't recall the name) and got him on the phone and voiced some problems. The guy gave him a private number and said if he ever has anything else he'd like to discuss, feel free to call in the evenings--but not after 10pm because he tries to be in bed by then.

Long story short, I'm re-electing that guy.

Put Amicus and BS on ignore, and virtually ignore all political threads, which seem the majority still; if they don't fade away soon I'll be scarce here and only lurk to keep up with a few people I care about.

Then who will I stalk?

I have been in considering mode for several months.

I admit that this does makes my Canadian boyfriend’s enticements more attractive . . . .

Well, you just hurt my poor feelings. I spent all this time trying to get you to like me, and you just won't. I hold my breath searching desperatly to see the wisdom sprouting from your magic fingers. Hoping that your AV would change to that lickable red nipple. If find myself unable to sleep, thinking of the possiblity of kneeling between your lucious thighs to taste your sweet nectar. My heart is breaking. I am defeated. There is no hope of holding you in my arms and gazing upon your beauty.

How can I reform? How can I get you to love me? What would it take? I'd do anything for your forgiveness.

What have you been considering? Just curious, as I've also been doing some considering lately.

Lime, a man has to believe in some things and I believe I'll have another drink!

At present: [1>

Considering:

< = Moving . . . Staying = >

<2[Marriage] — <1[Living Together] — [Long Distance Relationship]1> — [End It Clean]2>

All things considered, both 2's are further than I care to go.

Hence, the

I can empathize. Except for the living together, I'm considering all of the above, and the question of love vs. in love. Find new job here and hope for the best or move, marry and start a family.

Confusion reigns.

I've been politically active for a long time and this is the most discouraging experience. That includes the slow death of the Equal Rights Amendment. As much as I dread what's to come, the worst thing has been discovering that there are 2 species of American voter, whose values and passions are entirely alien to each other. Not just alien, but ugly. If I'm honest, I'd have to describe what I feel as disgust. No doubt, it works both ways.

On another level, there's an eerier feeling that started when I saw GWB's press conference yesterday: a feeling that he's in charge of the country that invaded mine, for our own good, and occupies us now.

In Bush/Cheney's first term, I had the comfort of knowing that a minority of voters had inflicted him on the rest of us. As long as there were more of us than of them, there was a chance to turn the tide. This time, he was given the mandate he pretended to have in 2000. There's a clear directive from Bush voters to their president, to destroy what I loved about this country.

My values have been under attack since Ken Starr crawled out from under a rock. The walls were breached in November 2000. On Tuesday, defeat was official. We've been taken over by a single-party, single-ideology government under the direction of people I loathe and fear. If you don't believe that discrimination is a moral value, they consider you morally corrupt. If you object to their schoolyard-bully tactics, you're a weakling. They admire action more than inteligence. Rush Limbaugh is their Mark Twain.

What am I going to do about it? I'm going to ignore them while I can and live my life. It's pointless to try communicating with majority of Americans who trusted this man enough to hand him absolute power.

My represenative is Hillary. Not much point in writing to her.

I suspect I will do just about exactly what I have done the rest of my life. I'll take an interest in some of it, issues that concern me, the rest will only come to me if someone here makes it intersting.

W has a mandate from the people. The interesting thing about a mandate is, you have to accomplish things or people feel betrayed. In two years we will all have the chance, on the state level to grade him, by our senatorial and house votes. The house is too far gone to correct in one election, but the GOP majority in the senate is only a few seats.

I hope, really hope, that the passions, fear and loathing of the people on this board are emblematic of how most democrats feel and that there will be enough ground level outrage to make the policy guru's at the top of the organization admit they have a problem and go about fixing it. Perhaps a vain hope, but I have more hope of the Dems fixing their problems than of my ex party fixing theirs by cleaning house.

Speaking of Hilary...

What do you guys in the US reckon her chances are of running for President in 2008?

I think she would be damn fine, but I'll be honest and say I don't know an awful lot about the intricacies of US politics.

If she does, get ready for four MORE years of the GOP.

From what I have heard from the foreign press, this reaction is probably playing out all around the world.

America has been vilified around the globe because of the actions of this president. Yet in every insult there was also the rider that by America they did not mean the people, but rather the American government under this president. It appears that the world thought better of us than we deserved.

To what degree ratification of this president’s action — after the fact — will further sour international co-operation, and isolate America is still to be determined.

Worst possible scenario?

If the EU made a run at establishing Petrodollars defined in the Euro Dollar, and succeeded.

Then the final, and real reason for attacking Saddam will have come to pass.
