Bush's "policy" with regard to the terrible events in the middle east cannot be described as anything but the biggest waffle in presidential policy in memory (and yes, I remember the Clinton years). Unfortunately, Bush's waffling may cost more lives than we know.

Have you read Kennedy and Nixon: The Rivalry That Shaped Post-War America by Christopher Matthews? That's a real eye-opener when it comes to Nixon. Excellent book.

I personally haven't made up my mind about Bush, Jr. yet. He's had to deal with an awful lot. It's an unenviable task he's got, really. I sure as hell wouldn't know what to do about all of it.

I wouldn't want to be Bush, Powell, Sharon, or Arafat right now. They're neck-and-neck with Enron execs on my "glad I'm not" list.
I couldn't really tell you if he's waffling more than anyone else, ever. A firm, unapologetic stance might be good, but both sides over there really need to feel heard, and they're obviously not feeling that way. Alienating either one even more can't be a step toward reconciliation.
