With the oldtimers, there is indisputable evidence.

Some of us are... and we continue to live to tell about it, too. Just gotta be who you are, kind/gentle or not. We sniff out phonies and assholes and precarious immaturity in seconds around here. However, "kind/gentle" as personally defining characteristics might best be left to those of us with some natural affitinty for it.Innocencefound said:Are people actually Kind and gentle around here, I never noticed![]()

Cym- pretty good appraisal I'd say. Usually it's not hard to tell who will stick around for a while either.
As some folks have gleefully pointed out, everybody has at least a few stupid posts under their belt...well, maybe not STUPID, but at least obnoxious.
Yes, I do realize that anyone here could go digging through the Lit archives, if they were freakishly bored enough, and dig up a dork post or two on everyone else in the place. Big Whoop. What I was offhandedly remarking about was 2 or 3 individuals that seemed to show up all on the same day and were determined to A) insult people, or B) show how tough they were.
I don't know what the strategy is. Maybe just immaturity or stupidity. My first few days at Lit, I looked around and tried to size people up and instantly realized there were some pretty smart cookies here.
I also realized that if I wanted to be at least marginally accepted (and we ALL want to be accepted- all of us, albeit in different ways and on different levels) and actually get something out of this, I would have to have a minimum of manners and try to make some friggin' sense in my posts- in the beginning at least. I still try to be respectful of the people that rate it, and couldn't care less about the rest. I surely don't remember getting my ass flamed on the first day, or even the first week- I could be wrong...I'm sure some freak will dig it up if I am.
I don't hate newbies at all. What I hate is assholes who have no other purpose in life, liars, and phonies. People have likened me to a "Lasher the Lesser"...I went and read a few of his posts, and I agree that while I'm at times abrasive, I fall short of his level of vitriole. I try to contribute something positive and worthwhile along with random jabs and pointing out obvious stupidity along the way. Some of these virgin posters we are talking about seem determined to turn this place into a smack-down board on their first day. They're not hard to spot.
There are also new posters who exhibit brains and humor on their first few posts. They may not get the attention of the jerks, but they do get noticed. I appreciate them a great deal, maybe because they seem to come along less frequently than the idiots.

Speak for yourself. I've never made a stupid OR obnoxious post...
Oh wait... I think what I just said was both stupid AND obnoxious...)... Damn, just ruined a perfect record.
