Who exactly is D'Hoffryn? How old is he, how did he come into being. And exactly what is his job?

From what I've seen he is almost like a vampire in the sense that he spawns vengence demons. But what is he beyond that? Where does the source of his power reside. I mean he doesn't exactly seem to be that powerful (Or if he is he is a soft hearted demon) because we never see him doing anyhing other than createing vengence demons. Is he someone's lacky?

Everyone is someone else's lackey. And personally, I think someone who can create demons is pretty fucking powerful. Beyond that, I'll have to go back and check all the production notes I have, and see what specifics were laid out for the guy. Give me a few days. I've been a busy beaver, lately.

So either he is a soft hearted demon or he takes a hands off approach when it comes to humans because the only interaction he has with humans (That I've seen) is offering to make them a vengence demons. Of course maybe he's powerful enough that he loathes humans and thats why he creates other demons to do the dirty work.

There's only one thing more powerful then evil...and that's us.

hmmmmm....interesting episode.

Summary please for those of us who can't get the WB.

Hmmmm....

Ubervamp tortures Spike. Buffy falls asleep, gets visit from her mother. Giles shows up with 3 slayers in training.Giles says all remaining Slayers in training are on their way to Sunnydale to be protected by Buffy and to help her eventually. Andrew leads Scooby gang to the seal thing. They bury it. Start walking out of basement of school and meet the principal, who is also carrying a shovel. Giles and Buffy go to the old X-mas tree lot where she first met the First. She falls through the hole and promptly gets the tar beat out of her by the Ubervamp. She stakes it but it just grins and pulls the stake out and Buffy barely escapes. Ubervamp torture Spike some more with the help of the First looking like Drusilla. Buffy goes back to school to work her counselors job, falls asleep again and is visited by Joyce one more time. Buffy goes home and prepares to look for the First and Ubervamp again. Slayers in training get edgy wanting weapons because they expect Ubervamp to come for them. 1 of the Slayers in training gets scared and runs out of the house and is killed by the Ubervamp very easily and quickly. Buffy finds the body and Ubervamp and her fight again with Buffy getting some blows in but doing no damage as the Ubervamp beats her unconscience and just leaves her for some unknown reason. Scoobies find Buffy and take her home. While they think she is still knocked out they talk about what to do if Buffy can't fight or kill the Ubervamp. She comes out, gives a speech about how they usually wait for the apocalyspe to begin but this time they are going out to find their apocalyspe. Buffy declares war on the First, end of show.

Awesome episode.

I wish i could give a speech like Buffy. that was SOOO fuckin cool!!!!!!!!!! I liked the S.I.T. that died though...she was wicked cute. Gotta love the British accent.

I can't wait for Angelus to show up...and for Spike to kick ass. Hell, i'm THOUROUGHLY looking forward to Buff kicking the SHIT outta our buddy Nosferatu.

Mona...i didnt see him actually touch anyone this episode either...hmmmm...and he stopped short when he was talking about the whole "saw the guy laying there, told me to protect the others" thing. Hell, he LOOKS dead...hmmmmm...

p.s. Its the BASSALOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think he might be dead? What about those documents and books he came back with? Why would he have those with him if it really wasn't Giles?

... just thinking out loud.

hehe I do this every week. Read the thread when I know you all are gonna be posting summarys of the episode. hehe well now I know what to look for when I watch it in *looking at watch* about another hour.

Force for good...force for evil....i dunno. It might be the First...getting to them...but Giles was out in the sunlight...i dunno...confusing...Cibo my brotha, where you at?

Yes he was but didn't that scene where he shows up only just as Buffy is nearly out of that hole a bit strange???

I won't deny that I had a bit of doubt about it being him...

When he didnt show up till the end...that kinda got me thinking a bit. He actually LOOKED dead. Hmmmmm...i cant help but think...could it be the first just fucking with them? i keep going back to how he didnt say the S.I.T's saved him or anything...for all we know, he got his head chopped off...

Yup, but why the papers and books? Or could that be the First's way of playing with them? (which could be why he didn't outright kill Buffy when he had a chance to)

Giles sat down on something and also leaned against a wall.

But the first did that as well while impersanting spike down in that basement where he buried all those people.

*spoiler*

So Giles can very well be dead and the first be fucking with their minds REAL good.

Ohhhhh...and that lesbian or bi new SIT...she is kinda cute and would love to see her and willow get together.

Random thoughts...

The books that Giles brought with him could be disinformation that the First wants Buffy to see.

The information could be real and the First is so confident he will fuck Buffy up that it doesn't care what info she has on him.

The info is legit and Giles is legit.

Giles is dead and is being used by an agent of good just as it appears Joyce is doing.

What I am sure of....

The First is toying with Buffy and the Scoobies because its as old as time and it doesn't get to have 'fun' too often. Also it is so confident it will win it doesn't care what Buffy does really but would rather have her out of the way at the right time because she is a wild card in its plans.

Yeah, thw whole thing with Giles not touching anything got me thinking.

I'm not entirely convinced that he is the 1st. I think that its too obvious and that its what they want us to think.

For a while I was wondering if he was a ghost and maybe everyone was just too upset to notice. But you would think that Willow (being all magical) would notice. So maybe he isnt a ghost. Of course, if he was a ghost, he would still be able to touch objects that belong to him. You know a la-sixth sense, where he was onky able to wear the clothes he had on the day he died. I know its a stretch, but it is Buffy. Buffy is weird and inconsistent like that.

By the way, did anyone else notice anything weird about the way Giles looked in the sunlight? I thought that the part of the scene with him approaching Buffy was kind of awkward. maybe it had nothing to do with him and everything to do with the fact that they were trying to make the approaching sunlight more obvious, but the whole thing was weird for me.

What throws me is how would have Giles got away from the Bringer that was ready to chop his head off. I mean it was behind him and Giles was so intent on hearing what his fellow Watcher was trying to say he wouldn't have seen it unless he saw its reflection somehow.

Was it just me, or did anybody else like that last speech?

"You’re right.
"We don’t know how to fight it.
"We don’t know when it’ll come. We can’t run; can’t hide. Can’t pretend that it’s not the end ‘cause it is.
"And something’s always been there to try and destroy the world.
"We’ve beaten them back, but we’re not dealing with them anymore. We’re dealing with the reason they exist: Evil. The Strongest. The First."
...
"I’m beyond tired. I’m beyond scared. I’m standing on the mouth of hell and it is going to swallow me whole...and it’ll choke on me!
"We’re not ready? They’re not ready!
"They think we’re going to wait for the end to come like we always do. I’m done waiting.
"They want an apocalypse? Well we’ll give ‘em one. Anyone else who wants to run, do it now, because we just became an army. We just declared war. From now on we won’t just face our worst fears we will seek them out. We will find them and cut out their hearts one by one, until the First shows itself for what it really is. And I’ll kill it myself.
"There’s only one thing on this earth more powerful than Evil, and that’s us.
"Any Questions?"

Buffy. The Slayer

Yes, that speech was powerful. While she was saying it it gave me goosebumps because it finally means Buffy is taking action instead of reacting to something (Even though she is really reacting but I mean she is taking the bull by the horns instead of waiting and waiting). It also gave me goosebump because its looking more and more like my prediction is going to be quite a bit right.

Oh before I forget... Is it just me or does this Ubervamp look quite a bit like the Master did? The Master must have been old enough to have been sired by one of the Ubervamps. Unlike todays vampires that are more human looking. Maybe it was just evolution so todays vamps could go about their business of stalking without raising alarm.

Older a vamp is, the more Bat-Like it's appearance will be, as they slowly ditch their human face.

Though that doesn't explain Kakistos.

kissing toast.

Heh,.

And I am now officially done.

12 episodes to go. I've locked away the rest of the scripts, production notes, no more dailies or conversations with those involved.

I know a fair bit, but for once, I intend to be suprised from week to week.

12 more episodes.

Bring it on, Whedon.
