I don't know about you guys but I find it very difficult to describe breasts when writing my stories. You know, they come in all shapes and sizes. Can someone please take me through the sizes and perhaps using some celebrities to compare will help.

If you must use sizes, the number is how big around the band is and the letter is cup size. But there is some disaggreement on how to properly measure, and women have said that one brand's size isn't the same as anothers. I'd try and go more for jsut being descriptive and using comparisons, for me that brings a good image to mind better than a size. Plus size doesn't even begin to tell how they hand when uncovered, or how the nipples look, or so much more about them.

Yeah, that.

Bra sizes in stories is a pet peeve of many a reader (myself included), so you're best off avoiding them completely if you're trying to describe breast size.

Actually, there are some great guides on breast size in the How To story section. Here's a link to some of them.

It might help you to find pictures that fit the images in your head and character, then write your description based on what you see and imagine feeling.

You might also consider using a female editor and/or beta reader. Perhaps she can help you hone your descriptions, remove unnecessary information and give you ideas on making your story as realistic and appealing as possible.

I agree 100% with this. IMO, the intent of an erotic story is to entertain and "please" the reader. This means that we should leave enough to the imagination to enable the reader to envision their "perfect" breast (or penis, of whatever).

I prefer to use words that paint a picture... "In the dim light of the candle her breasts seemed to glow with a light of their own. The delicate round orbs were so smooth and firm that they appeared as porcelain, except where the dark erect nipples punctuated her desire....". Hopefully, such word play will give enough to the reader to "fill in the blanks" with a perfect picture of their own favorite breast type. The example above should allow for this (unless the reader has a preference for rough saggy breasts - can't always please everyone!!!)

explicit measurements always kill my interest in a story, too. IMX, the people who insist on citing bra sizes are men anyway, and as non-owners of breasts, most of us tend to get it all screwy anyway.

stick with relative measurements, i say. it's much more visceral and immediate, i've always felt.

Just keep in mind that the larger the number, the large the woman's ribs are. And the higher up the letter, the larger the breast is.

So, in reality: a woman who is a 32B is a thin woman with medium sized breasts. A woman who is a 44C is a larger woman with medium-large breasts. And a 50D is a heavyset woman with large breasts.

and a 55A is about as realistic as an 12 inch cock. I actually saw someone use a similar size (big number small letter) to try to describe a woman of average build and large breasts in a story. really made me laugh.

*guffaw* Geeze, that's a case of misinformation if I've heard one.

Don't list a bra size. It totally kills the mood for me and many others. Also, don't bother with how long a cock is either.

i'd have to agree. i usually skip right over stories that try to box in characters this way.

You could try using the senses to desribe a body part rather than dimensions. It takes more effort, but it'll create a better mood and help develop your skills as a writer.

Amen to that. And the whole point of this type of story is to be sensual, is it not? :)

I read one once that described this petite little thing - blond, 5'2", young college cheerleader, gorgeous legs, flat stomach... 44DDD breasts.

*does not compute*

For information purposes, the following is a decent guideline:

If one must mention size, the number is the band size and is only measured in even numbers; the letter is the cup size.

The difference between the band (rib measurement) and fullest part of the bust = the cup size [generally 1" per cup, but not always]. So a woman with a size 32H, she's very petite, with roughly a 12-13" differential between her ribs and the fullest part of her bust. If a woman is a 36C, she's of average build (not thin but not heavy), with a 3-4" differential between ribs and bust.

Bras cups tend to run AA, A, B, C, D, DD (or E), DDD (or F), F, FF, G, GG, H, HH, J, K, I. Bands usually start at a 30; the largest I've dealt with is a 54.

A smaller band measurement does not mean a woman will have a smaller cup; a larger band measurement does not mean a woman will have a larger cup. there really are [natural] 30H's in the world, just like there really are [natural] 48B's.

:)

While this is of course true, unless such an extreme build is kind of the point of your story I'd avoid them. Something that unusual is likely to break the mood of the reader and seem unrealistic. Of course the same goes for extreme penis sizes, while there surely have been unusually large men, if it seems unreal it will affect the immersion of the reader in a bad way.

Great. Now I'm picturing a guy with a 12-inch cock titfucking a woman with a 55A bra size. :D

Original Poster, if you're still lost, just remember that bra-cup sizes actually use identical organization to standard nickel-cadmium batteries. The big ones are D's, the smallest ones are triple-A's, and every now and then you meet someone with a 9V cup.

The 9V breasts are rather shocking!!!

sorry, had to say it.

The number tells you how thin or fat the woman is. 34 = skinny, 48 = fat

The letter tells you the actual size of the breasts. A= small, D= big

I don't see where the confusion is.

Neither do I, but given the amount of stories on Lit describing 5'8" women who weigh 90 pounds and have 38 DD breasts (yeah, I pulled those numbers out of my ass, but I've seen similar stuff here), there's obviously some confusion somewhere. Among male writers, anyway.

Which strikes me as odd with as much attention as I, and most men, pay to breasts.
