Branding

it is rather like a tawse http://www.bdsm-gear.com/bdsmtawse.html crossed with a paddle

mine were made for me by a delightful submissive leather smith. where the tawse has a split end and is somewhat softer ,the querte is doubled leather like a paddle(but narrow like a tawse) with a strong bound handle and mine has my initials carved as the end of it. It is very solid but springy and has the speed and intensity of a cane, with the solidity of a heavy paddle. The protruding carved initials leave a perfect purple signature.
I LOVE MY TOYS! :p

Oh thooose! Hehe, S wants me to make some custom nerdy ones out of ping-pong paddles. And really? They last a while? Then again, I guess it just depends on how hard you hit..

I wouldn't use ping-pong paddle as a base, if I was to make a customized paddle. We've managed to get two paddles split into halves and they really weren't even used that hard. I don't know if the ones we had on hand were really crappy ones or if we had just bad luck, but I wouldn't want to put a lot of effort into making a customized paddle only to get it break after a couple of swats.

Where did it split? I'll bet I could figure out a way to make em last longer. (I'm pretty handy at making things, so long as I have the tools for it. And unfortunately, I don't have the tools to work with leather or wood.)

The ones we had were made of several layers, kinda. So it split between some layers and also after it split, the handle started to fall into pieces as well.

ah, thanks for the explanation. :)

If you are young, with no permanent attachment, and acknowledging this may not last forever, I would advise against branding, name or anything. Names can be an issue, but so can having a brand of anything on you if you meet somone later you really care about who is not so cool with it. I have had it done, but it was not something which was gone into lightly and for the momentary thrill of it all. There is a thread here which I started which talks about branding if you want to read more about the practice.

To each their own..however..I want to chime in and tell you I think this is a REALLY bad idea! Let me put it another way, if I was dating a girl, and every time I undressed her I found the name "Bill" branded on her ass, it would start to bother me. And even worse if you got it next to your cookie...Again, you will do what you are going to do, but I get a bad vibe from all of this.

coincidently... *passes* hope you like gingerbread. it's the soft kind though. chocolate covered :D

Honestly, I think it really depends on how much the relationship means to you, as opposed to the longevity. Well, once you get through the honeymoon phase anyways.

I'm getting a tattoo soon, well once the design and location discussions have run their course, and I'm not adverse to getting a name, or initials etc combined with some other meaningful mark.

Yes, I'm well aware that the current relationship will most likely not last forever, but it means the world to me, and I'll always remember it fondly.

And I see nothing wrong with that. Everyone has a past.

That all being said, I don't have much to offer on the actual branding front, except agreeing that it's not smart to brand over cut skin. I know there's a chance the brand will cauterise the wounds, but still, do you want to take that risk?

have you ever done cell-popping? it ends up looking like a brand....but lasts between 3 and 6 months. might be a good start....
Its probably a better idea than branding. Trust me, burns HURT and the scares dont fade very fast. You also have to be really, really careful of infection and deep tissue damage. While skin grafts MAY be possible if the relationship ends, the questions from the hospital staff will probably be pretty awkward.
