Those born between 1946 and 1964 are popularly known as the baby boom generation collectively, and baby boomers individually - or, just "boomers". The term is used to describe the great boom of births following the end of WWII. And, although everyone in the world born in that generation can technically be referred to as a baby boomer, the term is wholly American and applies specifically to those Americans who were born during America's incredible run of prosperity starting right after victory in WWII.
One born in 1955 is in the exact middle of the boomer generation, and 2017 marks the year which all those born in 1955 can officially begin receiving Social Security as they all turn 62, thus informally representing half the boomer generation out the workforce door.
Boomers this year range from 53-years old to 71, with the next President at the high end of the boomer scale (Donald Trump turns 71 in June), and the exiting First Lady at the lower end of boomerhood (Michelle Obama turns 53 in six days).
Is the world's glass half-full or half-empty as the boomers are half-way out the door?
