Birthright Citizenship Challenge

What??? Are you really that ignorant of other countries laws???

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_nationality_law

and dozens of other countries....
It is more work than that. Unlike here you can't show up 9 months pregnant and drop a kid for him or her to be a citizen. Even if they do jump through the hoops the baby is not an anchor allowing the parents to apply for citizenship. They have to follow normal process. Which is pretty lax. There aren't many that really want to go there. At least what you would consider desirables. Toronto used to be an awesome city. Now it is so full of foreigners and poverty you are kind of stuck in certain enclaves. It is still difficult to work in Canada. You can go and live as an American. To gain citizenship and become employed not really worth it unless you have to. Taxes on high! Socialism is expensive!

Yes you can, sorry but you're completely wrong on this, the US is not the only place...sorry. I'm Canadian, and we get the same complaints from our rightwing circle jerks about this too.

We're in the minority of a lot of great aspects of human existence in the world.

These fucking guys only want to tout popularity when it supports their bigotry

Love the racism shining through too....

Foreigners=Poverty

How cute.

Canadians have longer average lifespans, we rate high on satisfaction and happiness studies, no one goes bankrupt or takes a job they hate over medical care. Our health system outcomes are virtually identical. But hey, live where want, and think what you wish. The USA is a free country, for a few more months.

Of course, this is a joke post. There is no Canada.

One occasionally hears these silly rumors of an English-speaking -- or by some accounts, French-speaking -- country to the north of the U.S. The people supposedly put maple syrup on baked beans and gravy on cheese curds. Their national sport is ice hockey, of all things! And their police wear some kind of preposterous over-the-top gay bondage gear.

Needless to say, all this nonsense is pure UL. You'd have better luck finding the Seven Cities of Cibola!

The Canadians I knew that were expected to have longer lifespans are both gone. First one died of natural causes nothing to do with healthcare or the quality of her health. She actually penned what is the current healthcare system of Canada. The other died younger than he should have and well younger than the "longer" lifespan. He was old and the hospital so full they left him in a hall way with lights that never went off or dimmed. Humiliated, in severe pain and left with permanent damage to his body by the neglect he died. So hard for family as his mind was fully intact. He was a lifelong Canadian Patriot. An Ambassador. Canadian Healthcare completely failed him. In their retired years they lived in Mexico and Canada.
Your health care outcomes are no way comparable to American health care. Ours is very costly and it matters if you can afford care. It is not outright denied as in Canada.
I want to live in America. I am free and believe, think and live what I want. without having to feel like I have to go somewhere else to get it. Although, even the Canadian dollar is worth more than a peso. We are more free than Canada by far. Even Truckers can protest here. Free to own a gun too.

NHL, mostly played in America. I've seen some Canadian teams come to play. Go Fliers!

It's an opinion piece written by a social media and politics freelancer.

That's not a history lesson...that's a puff piece.

The primary author of the clause was Bingham, not Howard. 👍
Yeah…it says OPINION on the first line. Point taken, I shouldn’t have attached “lesson” to the header, but we wouldn’t want anyone to actually learn or think around these parts…🙄

Here’s the gist…for those that wont read…

There is zero precedent for allowing citizenship to children born to illegal alien parents. Article 1, section 8, clause 4 gives plenary power to Congress over naturalization and Section 5 of the 14th Amendment over jurisdiction, which Congress altered to allow Indians born in the United States to become citizens in 1924.

There is no existing law passed by Congress as of now that gives jurisdiction to illegal aliens born in the United States.

The executive and judiciary don’t have the power to decide the issue.

The debate over whether Trump can sign an executive order to end the practice of birthright citizenship is a different argument entirely.

History lessons are taught by history experts, not political hacks and maga worshippers who believe Haitians are eating their pets

I read it. The amendment precedent will not be overturned.

You know what else Europe is missing besides birthright? Our form of government. If we're basing morality on how many other first world governments are doing things, time to chuck out Congress and the electoral college and bring in Parliament.

Shocker that you found an article that agrees with your bullshit.
Birthright citizenship will be upheld.
Let's hope not. It makes no sense. It is not a value to the USA nor does the Constitution dictate we should shoot ourselves in the foot.
Questionable oBama was a citizen even eligible to be President and look at the long lasting damage he did on us.

NYT opinion piece concedes 'Trump might have a case on birthright citizenship'

Two law professors wrote of the Supreme Court: 'When they finally consider this question, the justices will find that the case for Mr. Trump’s order is stronger than his critics realize'

A Georgetown Law School professor and a University of Minnesota law professor may have surprised the liberal readers of The New York Times. The pair argued in a guest opinion essay that President Donald Trump may hold a powerful legal case on the issue of birthright citizenship.

"When they finally consider this question, the justices will find that the case for Mr. Trump’s order is stronger than his critics realize," Georgetown Law professor Randy E. Barnett and University of Minnesota law professor Ilan Wurman wrote of the Supreme Court in a guest essay published on Saturday.

The headline firmly stated, "Trump might have a case on birthright citizenship."

Trump's decision to issue an executive order ending birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants has faced significant opposition in the federal court system, with U.S. District Judge Joseph N. Laplante in New Hampshire temporarily blocking the order on Monday.

The case is very strong. As I have said.
