Big yank trucks

A piece of me would like a Studebaker truck. The big one, not the p/
Hah! Reminds me of my uncle, who was a career long haul trucker. He had a Studebaker pick-up for personal use. My cousin dyslexified the name as "Stud Breaker." The name stuck. As far as I know, the truck never broke any bolts or got stuck ( probably a testament to my uncle's driving skills) more than anything.

We’re about to get some Ford F150 down here.

Not gonna lie, I’ve kinda always wanted one. I don’t know anything about what they’re like obviously, but still. What a truck. Be great down the farm I think.

Anyone have a truck? Like a RAM or Silverado or F150? Sales are booming apparently.

The 2023 Ford F-150 is one giant step closer to Australian showrooms, with the first shipment of pick-ups already on the water and on their way to Melbourne ahead of a multi-million-dollar right-hand-drive remanufacturing program.
Despite fears there would be significant delays – given Ford’s engineering partner RMA had never before undertaken a left- to right-hand-drive conversion program on such scale – the F-150 is on track to hit its forecast arrival in the second half of this year.
At this rate, the first customer deliveries in Australia of the locally-remanufactured right-hand-drive Ford F-150 are expected by October, pending any unforeseen setbacks.
I drive a GMC AT4, sister to a Silverado.

Incredibly comfortable and roomy.

Have a 2022 F-150 XL. Supposed to be a work truck, but has too many bells and whistles.

I hate the fucking thing. Previous truck was a '08 F-150, which was still a truck. This new truck is trying to be a phone, navigation system, entertainment system, and a cadillac all at the same time. The transmission calibration sucks. It never finds the gear I want it to be in. It up-shifts when it shouldn't and won't when it should. It's got too much 'big brother is watching' electronic bullshit in it.

Don't turn the fucking parking brakes on until I say so.
Yes, someone is slowing down in front of me. I see him. Take that red message and sirens and shove them up your ass!
If I open the door to look behind me quickly while backing up, don't shift into park you fucking asshole!
The one time I wanted the backup camera to work, it didn't! (Recall on the Expiditions, not the F-150's).
Why is there a recall where the parking brake comes on at highway speeds all on it's own?

Fuck me, I hate this fucking truck.
Amen brother. I can’t tell you how many times I need to just jump in, and back the F’n thing up ten feet with no need to shut the door…the cocksucker wont come out of Park until you shut the door. It’s maddening.

There has to be a way to disable that?

My grandfather called them Steady Breakers, but then, he had a name for damned near every brand of rolling stock on the highway.

I'll wager the Russkies still have a few lend lease trucks on some kind of active duty there.

Those Russian Ural Off-Road trucks are pretty impressive. They don't go fast, but they keep going.

On my second RAM...would stillhave it but gaveit to my son. I haul everything with it, gp offroad at the camp and have never had issues. Interesting thing is the 5.7 Hemi which gets 13 mpg arpund town routinely gets 28mpg on the thruway at 70mph when it goes from 8 to 4 cylinders. I will be interested to see how elecyric full size trucks shake out.

I won't.

I have always owned a truck, I got my first one, a 1964 Ford F100 a few months before i got my driver's license on my 16th birthday. I am 62 now and have always had a 1/2 ton pickup truck, as well as some of the smaller ones, Datsun's, Toyota's, Ford Courier's and Rangers. Now I own a 2000 Chevy Silverado, and it is everything I need in a truck, doesn't have all the stupid shit they put on vehicles today, just a nice truck for me to haul stuff in. I have almost always owned a second vehicle, as trucks are not the answer all the time. I have a GMC suv I drive for the most part, where we live all-wheel drive is a necessity, my truck stays in the garage most of the time.

One YouTuber bought the F150 Lightning and it really dissapointed him the first time he towed with it. I think it's battery died when it had about a full charge. Hard pass for me. Nobody buying a full size truck should be concerned with fuel economy, get a Mitsu Mirage if it's a big deal.

I live on a small tropical caribbean island where you have to drive something tough to survive the road and climate conditions. Frankly any truck made in the americas SUCKS! F150's appear to be saloon car mechanicals with a muscle shirt added, the gearboxes here last about 2 years, and the main bearings maybe 4. The paint falls off too in high UV conditions. Dodge RAMs are imported occasioally but seem to die - mainly the rubber and plastic bits get eaten by bugs and again the paint falls off. Toyota do some really good vehicles, but the key point is NOT ONES MADE IN THE AMERICAS [mexico?]. I thought the hilux wasnt available [officially?] in the US because those are made in south africa, and the taliban would choose nothing less. Their aussie favourite v8 farmer truck is also built of bricks. Even humble 4th hand japanese made toyota saloons seem to last here. Isuzu trucks are similarly very good, made in Thailand, Isuzu dont make cars, just trucks. Jeeps also suck, whoever decided that reverse gears should be made of aluminium should be shot, similarly, the idea that brake rotors are only supplied with a chunk of the front suspension added, madness. The up and coming makes here now are all chinese and indian, because they can take the conditions, and of course are a lot cheaper.

There is a reason why the paint falls off - the US and EU have environmental rules about the amount of VOC's a car factory can throw out, so the only part of the paint that is protective - the lacquer or varnish, is thin and not terribly good at fighting UV. The asian made cars have to survive their warranties in the tropics, and have no such environmental issues. We also raise 2 fingers at electric vehicles, just another scheme to make you less mobile, poor and the asians richer.

Our petrochemicals are local - but about 30% of the crude is from Iran. In US terms about 20 dollars to fill a car, or 2 dollars if you use CNG.

I really wanted the Ford Raptor but couldn’t justify paying 60k. I instead got a 2021 Toyota Tacoma. If you know anything about Toyotas it will last a lot longer than any Ford.

A Tacoma is fucking little, and you have to drive it in a car-type seating position. Yeah, it has headroom, but so what? I have to slither in and out of it and duck my head so as not to knock my brains out on the door opening header. This is a work truck, so I tolerate. They provide everything about it. Giving the devil his due, it starts and runs and hasn't had any problems, but at 91K miles, it had better not. My Ram 1500 is half again as big, has seating for adults, will run circles around it and pull tons more shit to boot, and when empty gets better fuel mileage at a ton heavier and with 2 liters more engine.

If you like your Tacoma, keep it, by all means.

The company is supposed to be switching us out into F-150s. I'm not a Frod fan, but I can wait. Adult sized truck . . . .
