Beyond Time (closed)

"Nah. I only ever asked Dylandra, and she told me to just shut up and do it." John chuckled and moved closer to hug Elizabeth against his side. "But I've never met a girl quite like you."

"And I can say that I've never met a man like you. You're so stubborn and foolish sometimes." She said with a smile as she leaned against his side with a content sigh. "But you also make me incredibly happy. You're my friend, first and foremost. That means so much more to me than having a knight and protector fighting for my hand."

"Remember that when I actually have to be your knight and protector," John chuckled. He stayed with her til lat ethat evening, and he finally returned to Darkwood to find Dylandra drawing in the dining room by the light of multiple candles. He looked like he was walking on air, a foolish grin on his face as he came to kiss Dylandra's cheek. "Hiya, Dyl."

Once they had returned home, Dylan had retired to the dining room to draw. She had no idea what Ashien was up to, but Ballas had gone with him for the time being. She was drawing a still life of a bowl of vegetables, frowning as John interrupted to press a kiss against her cheek.

"You're in a cheerful mood. Did someone finally knock some sense into you?" She asked, glancing up from her paper to look at John in the low candle light.

"Kinda sorta. But that's not what I'm happy about." John sat down across from her and his smile never failed. He was practically giddy, and she had only ever seen him that way around her when she had him practically love drunk.

"Things must have gone well with Elizabeth. I never see you smile like that unless you're particularly happy about something." Dylan murmured, placing her sketch aside to give him her attention.

"I don't think I've been this giddy since you called me back after I gave you my number," John told her. "I know a gentleman shouldn't kiss and tell, but... Hell, why not? I officially kissed the princess of England."

"What took you so long?" Dylan asked as he confessed that he had finally kissed Elizabeth. "I would have thought that you would have done that a long time ago. I've never known you to wait like this for something that you really want."

"You don't just go kissing the daughter of the most powerful man in the country. You have to be a gentleman about it. I wasn't going to pull the same surprise kiss on her that I did you." John had often teased her about the look on her face the night he dropped her off at home after their first real date and he kissed her out of the blue with a roguish grin and some comment along the lines of 'thanks for dinner, beautiful' before heading home himself.

"I'm glad that she makes you happy, John. Just...be careful. Trying to date a princess is a lot different from dating me. There are rules and ceremony that you have to abide by." Dylan murmured as she reached across the table and took his hand, squeezing it gently. "I don't want to see you get hurt because there's no going back now. We're stuck here forever."

"I may be about the biggest idiot England has to offer, but I'm not gonna screw this up." He squeezed her hand in return. "Y'know... Seeing you so happy with Ash gives me a lot of hope for my own future. After we broke it off, I just figured I'd be better off alone and I was okay with that til I saw Elizabeth."

"You're a good man and you deserve to have a good life." Dylan murmured as he squeezed her hand. "I'm sad that things didn't work between us. You were the best thing in my life for a very long time. I'm happy that Elizabeth makes you happy, but I'll always worry about you."

"You're still one of the best parts of my life, Dylan. Nothing has changed. Except the amazing sex, of course," John chuckled and kissed her cheek. "But you have someone else for that now."

"And I love Ash very much." Dylan told him, giving John a smile as he squeezed her hand. "Almost as much as you seem to love Elizabeth. Sir John Davies has a nice ring to it. Perhaps one day you'll have King in front of that name as well."

"Even if I did marry her, I'm not so sure about being a king. I'm hardly responsible enough to take care of myself." John pressed a kiss to her cheek before rising. "And apparently Ashien is gonna add a horse to that responsibility soon. We'll see how that turns out. Now I don't know about you, but I'm exhausted."

"Knowing you, you haven't slept in a week." Dylan said with a smile towards John. "Go get some sleep. Ashien wants to take us somewhere this evening. Something sbout showing us a sight we've never seen before."

"Dyl, it's the twelfth century. We haven't seen a damn thing," John laughed and went on his way. It wasn't long before Dylandra heard soft padding steps and a sleepy tiger came wandering back to her side as he often did when she disappeared. He rumbled deeply and flopped over beside her chair.

"Were you awake too late last night?" Dylan asked Ballas as he flopped onto his side next to her chair. "Chasing the mice in the barn is better left to the tabby cats."

She reached down and scratched his ears, petting him as he rumbled deeply in his chest. "Or are you telling me it's time for a nap?""

Ballas simply grumbled and rumbled and purred happily away, folding his paws against his chest. At one point he caught her hand in his mouth, not biting or nibbling, but just holding on as if to tease her back. When he let go, he stood to face the door and Ashien entered a few seconds later. He paused to see Ballas staring at him, and neatly sidestepped when Ballas bolted at him playfully.

"What're you up to, love?" Ashien asked while Ballas tried to gnaw on his fingers.

"I was sketching but then I had a talk with John. Then that brute came in to find me." Dylan said as Ballas played with Ashien like he were a kitten. "I was wondering where you had gotten off to though. Perhaps you've slready for another woman to keep on the side."

"Hardly. I barely have time to keep you happy with John taking up all my free time," Ashien chuckled and sat down beside her. Ballas promptly laid his paws in Ashien's lap and yowled quietly at him for attention. "Oh, go play with Hane, you big baby," Ashien sighed and nudged the tiger away. Ballas simply Nuzzled up against Dylandra and scampered away. "And of course there's that monstrosity," Ashien commented watching Ballas' tail disappear into the hall. There was a smaller door near the front that Ballas could freely come and go from the courtyard through. "And now John's new horse too."

"You stretch yourself too thin, Ash." Dylan said as she reached over and touched her husband's cheek gently. "You need to slow down before you hurt yourself."

"I've been doing this for years, love. I'm alright," Ashien assured her softly. He then got a bit of a cheeky smile."You sound like Kay and my Ma."

"Well, I hope I'm not your sister or your mother because that would make what we do in bed a little strange." Dylan teased him as she kissed her husband gently. "But I do love you fiercely all the same. Never forget that."

"As milady commands," Ashien nodded and kissed her in return. "It's hard to forget that someone like you loves someone like me."
