Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it brings back some wonderful memories of family get-togethers and feelings of gratitude for all of God's blessings.

My family used to spend every Thanksgiving with my mother's sister and family. The warmth and love, the rituals, were one of the anchors of my childhood.

How about you? What are your favorite memories of Thanksgivings past?

Several years ago,we didn't have a whole lot of money so we couldn't afford to go to my mother's or even afford a turkey. I made a meatloaf and we had some veggies from our garden, along with a few canned goods. Our children were small then(we only had 2 then,Now we have 4) and the older girls say that they remember it as one of the best. We played games and watched the Macy's parade and had a wonderful time.

YogiBare,

Some of the best times I've had sharing the holiday with my family are when we just get to relax and talk of times gone by. We love to reminisce about the past and the wonderful times we had growing up. For some reason, we only remember those times, we seldom, if ever, bring up the things that have caused pain.

I love helping my sister fix Thanksgiving dinner because we each have our own specialities that we make each year. In the morning when we wake up we always make something sweet for breakfast like homemade coffee cake or some type of sweet buns. Our sons all love that part because they wake up to the aroma of sweetness which puts them all in festive moods.

Please enjoy your Thanksgiving, Everyone. Thank you for the pleasant memories, YogiBare.

carrie-on,

It sounds to me like you had the perfect Thanksgiving. You made the best of what you had and never looked back. Thanksgiving is a time for enjoying those around you - you did just that. Love is always surrounding us, it doesn't depend on the food, the amount of money spent, or even the decorations we have on our walls. It's all about giving and caring for one another and being thankful for what we do have and who we can share that with.

Happy Thanksgiving to you.

Is it OK if I give my WORST Thanksgiving memory?

Two years ago I had gone out on a couple of dates with a guy whose family didn't live in the area. Since my family is pretty laid-back, I invited him to come to my mom's house for Thanksgiving and he accepted. He didn't have a car (living in Manhattan), so I had to pick him up at the train station and take him to my mom's house.
Everything was Ok (he was a little brash, but not terrible) until in the middle of dinner, he started talking about how his parents "owed" him. My family is pretty boisterous, but as soon as he said that, everyone stopped what they were doing: other conversations ceased, forks were stopped in mid-air, and everyone looked at my mother. She called him an asshole and soon after, I drove him back to the train station, mortified. Then he had the nerve to yell at me about the fact that I didn't stick up for him! I threatened to pull over, dump his ass on the side of the road and make him walk over the Tappan Zee Bridge to the train station! I really should have, now that I think about it...

Well, when I got back to my house, I was mortified, and I apologized to everyone. Thankfully, they were cool about it- they said that I didn't really know him and that they thought it was nice of me that I invited him to begin with. Now it's something we laugh about at family get-togethers. :)
