I drive a lot for work and have been experimenting with apps that can read a story to me, be it my own for purposes of hearing how exactly it reads, or listening to others writing here to help me catch up, simply for enjoyment and entertainment on my long travels.

I haven't found one I truly like yet, but only just started looking really.

I don't mind paying IF it's a good service and the AI voice doesn't sound like a damn robot.

Looking for suggestions with realistic voices within reason and not outrageously priced.

NaturalReader or Murf are still pretty good. There's also speechify, but I never had much luck with that one. Dunno about pricing.

Usually I just open files in MS Edge and use its reader mode, but you can't save the output to a file without going through some contortions.

Another option is to buy realistic voices to install in Windows. Then you can use them in any text to speech app like Balabolka.

On my phone I use the Text To Speech app

(T2S: Text to Voice/Read Aloud by HE Soft)

On my PC I use Balabolka.

Both sound a little robotic, (Balabolka more so) but I only use them for proofreading, so who cares?
