Anyone here remember the good old days on the Alt.sex.stories newsgroup? It was in the early days of the internet. The internet was young and the porn was hot. There were some really good stories posted back in those days.

Then all of a sudden, there was critical mass, and the spammers and the wackos realized where the newsgroup was.

After that, you had to wade through all the spam and hate messages. As the crap increased, the quality of people posting began to wane. I thought maybe it was a one on thing, but have you noticed the recent increase in the amount of shit posted here? White power and advertisement for porn sites.

Is this the beginning of the end?

I hope not.

It isn't.

The problem is websites, especially ones with forums or some other form of interaction, are like bars. You need bouncers.

If you don't, all kinds of riff-raff show up and take over the place.

There was a forum I used to hang out at. The person who ran it refused to boot anybody off no matter how vile their actions. Now only about four people post there regularly. And they're all worse than amicus after he had to pay his taxes.

Lit's got good bouncers. So no major problems in my opinion

Despite the recent increase of white power crap and ads, I don't think that Lit is going to go through what the early forums did. When you compare Lit to the old newsgroups, it's like comparing day and night. Don't get me wrong, I loved the old groups ... even though the spammers nearly killed the one I subscribed to (we went to a volunteer moderator system) because having the word lesbian in a newsgroup title just invited trouble.

Lit has alot more control features that were never available on the old newsgroups. Moderators in many of the forums, the ignore list and there are some security features in place to stop automatic account creation. The key difference between the old group and Lit is that this is a private site ... if Laurel and Manu decide, they can change the rules, delete accounts, or whatever they see fit.

The recent spate of spam is annoying ... but I'm sure it will pass as their tiny little minds are distracted by some other shiny object.

Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning. ~W.C.

Were you not around for alt.sex.stories.moderated?

It was pretty good for quite a while. It's no Literotica though :)
