This is in no way disrespectful to E, but it's been bothering me for a little while that on a board such as GLBT there is only one Mod.

I would like to see another Mod to share the burden, perferably a male (gay or bi) to give balance to the board.

And I know I'm not the only one.

When the board first was up I spoke to the person I thought was best suited for the task, but he said he didn't want to insult or undermine E and the good work she was doing here. The funny thing about that is I find out later from some other people they also had asked the same person the same thing.

Well, I'm taking a break from Lit, but I still would like to see more balance brought to this forum, and thought I'd just come out and say so.

Thus said, I depart,

Your friend,
Polite.

It has been pointed out that it may seem that I am trying to get the person I'd talked to to be a mod.

He said no, and I respect that.

However, I think this board needs both a male and female mod.

I don't care if they are bi or gay, but for such a complicated place and issues, two sides give the place balance.

Thanks.

As I see it, the mod on this board is here to get rid of trolls and move threads that are obvious flames. Is that really a gender issue? Or even a gay one?

First, there's the general rules you'll find throughout Lit.

No spam. Spam gets deleted.

No posting somebody else's personal information - this gets deleted, and you get reported.

Off-topic posts are moved. Please post personals in the Personals section, story ideas in the Story Ideas section, and so forth.

No threats of any kind.

No posting of copyrighted images.

There are a few additional rules here in the GLBT section, too.

No gay-bashing. This ties in with "no threats," above.

No trolling. Stay under the bridge, please.

Straight people are welcome to join the conversation, but should remember what this forum is about.

No personal attacks. Argue opinions, but don't single out individuals for abuse.

Nope. Nothing here looks like it needs male 'balance'.

If E was actually "moderating" discussions, I might could agree ... maybe (this would be another debate). But she isn't moderating discussions. She is more of an enforcer of the rules of the forum than anything else.

The term "moderator" is a misnomer for the "mods" here at Lit. They are here to ensure that the rules are followed, not necessarily to mediate or preside over discussions. Instead, they police the threads in their respective forum(s). They start and participate in threads like any of us too.

I think we have some very intelligent gay men that post here regularly, along with some less intelligent ones (this goes for us women too ;) ). I believe there is balance when there needs to be on topics discussed. However, I think it's rare that there is a difference of opinion in any of the threads solely based on gender.

Have a great break from Lit. I look forward to you posting again soon. You are a valuable member of this forum, and Lit in general. ;) :rose:

I don't wish to appear ignorant, but I'm relatively new to this and wondered what 'Never' meant when he said, 'no trolling....stay under the bridge'?

Could somebody please enlighten me?

Why would this forum need another mod? It's not like there's a full-time job moving spam or anything. The only forum that really needs two mods is the personals and they ought to--preferably--not be habitually logged in at the same time so they can move non-personals into the playground.

The balance comes from the posters who drop by and I really think you're blowing the whole "mod" idea out of proportion. Etoile is here to remove things that have no bearing on the forum, not pioneer discussion. There is only one forum where the moderator guides discussion and that is the only place where I could conceivably see a need for "balance" since the mod is a friggin tyrant.

a gay male co~mod can increase traffic here.

isn't that what it's about?

I think that might have been the premise behind PS's suggestion.
I think there is also a quandry... or at least a different definition being applied by multiple parties. I suspect that there are those that view the moderator as a stimulator of discussion...someone who proposes topics not just acts as a policing agent to cut down the chaff.

That said, I would have to agree with Glam that a gay male moderator would be a wonderful idea. To my knowledge however, no one has volunteered to Laurel.

I think two gay male moderators would be wonderful. Preferably naked and wra-- um.

Does anyone have any ice? I need ice. . . .

If the general populace here wants an additional moderator, that's fine with me. If they want it to be a gay man, that's fine too. I don't personally feel that I need the help, but I'm not opposed to the idea.
