What are the names and a brief description of the functions of the general paraphrenalia the average Dom/sub/both will have on hand? You know, the basic equipment no good Dom will be caught dead without. That sort of thing.

Toys.
These things are all known collectively by us, and rather prosaically, too, i know, as "toys".

Toys kept on-hand:
Usually someone will have various insertables, dildos and ass plugs, to be explicit. I assume you need no description of their use and/or function.

Restraints of different kinds. Some fit on wrists and ankles, some fit over stationary objects (like a bed or a door) to hold the restrainee securely.

Floggers, slappers and the like are also a standard in most lifestylers toybox. Crops are inexpensive and fun to use; almost everyone buys one near the beginning of thier tenure with this kind of play. Plus, they look so cool. As one progresses down the road, it becomes apparent that unless there's a pile of money waiting to be used on toys, you're gonna have to make/acquire new toys from non-BDSM sources. That's when fly swatters and/or rulers and/or back scratchers and/or those poles that are supposed to hold plants up find thier way into the toy box.

Ummm...

Things to inhibit the senses, such as gags, blindfolds, hoods, and earplugs. When one has a loss of one or more of their senses, the others are sharpened accordingly. Disallowing the use of a sense or two during play also allows for a immediate focus on what is happening to one's body from second to second.

We can get into specialty items next, if you like.

Besides the "general" goodies in a Dommes toy box there are a few personal items I wouldn't like to be "caught dead" without - but those are more adapted to my personal preferences. I assume you are doing story research and so I shall stick with what I found to be "average" in a D/s toy box.

Cym pretty much named it all already. I personally do distinguish between what I have at home and what I would want to have with me in any case even when traveling.


anyway - just to confirm / put in a second opinion....

Restraints: a definite MUST.
There are all sorts of those and it depends on where I am going and how well I know the "location" but I just LOVE the ones that have "sucktion cups" on them and you can kinda "stick " them to any smooth surface ... like tiled walls in shower cabins, windows - car hoods *weg*


Dildos / anal plugs
nice to have! and an assortment is a "must" at home! Specially for a Domme they have the good thing of touching the "homophobic" side of a male sub when used at the first time.

When "traveling" though I might just as well settle for anal beads though - attracting less attention (specially with flying and the increased security checks vibrators are out of my "mobile toy box" atm.)

With all the plugs there goes of course the needed lube.


Hoods/blindfolds etc.
Hoods aren't for me - and neither are gags really. So those aren't in my "box" - but a MUST for me a are black scarves (not only silk but all sorts of fabric and different sizes

Love them and I like to have a variety at hand. As cym already mentioned quite soon there will be all sorts of items of the "non-BDSM-background the way into the toy box.
For the somple reason of price as well as for the second reason of fun experimenting with "sensations" caused by different objects applied to the body.

for some things cloth pegs (is that what they are called???) will do , but some sort of clamp-like device usually is in my toy box. Mostly for use on a tender nipple *s*


I personally do usually have a collar and leash (chain or such) with me - symbolic things put some subbies into sub-space faster than any physical attention might

serious personal favorites

Spreader bars - bars that lock at different lengths and can be attached to wrists or ankles with cuffs (some lock, some don't). They keep the arms and legs apart regardless of position.

Posture bars - same type of bar, but has a collar at one end and cuffs for the wrists at the other, again some have locks, others don't. This is designed to keep the sub in a ramrod straight position while allowing for things like kneeling.

Don't forget to have a hook or two in the ceiling to suspend someone....unless that is too harsh for what you have in mind.

You can also use a swing to hold someone off the floor with their legs open.

A horse to bend someone over...can be of many different types.

My favs are clips for nipples and clit(don't forget that), blindfold. collar for normal use and one for formal, leashes are good.
